Xiaomi YU7 GT Becomes The First Car to Lap The Green Hell With Nobody Behind The Wheel

The Xiaomi YU7 GT with Track Package has become the first car to complete a Nurburgring lap without a human driver. The Chinese performance electric SUV covered the full 20.8km Nordschleife circuit autonomously in 10 minutes and 29.483 seconds.

This is not the YU7 GT's first Ring achievement. In May 2026, it set a new production SUV lap record of 7 minutes and 22.755 seconds, beating the Audi RS Q8 Performance's previous mark. The autonomous run, however, is roughly three minutes slower than that record time.

During the run, the YU7 GT tackled all 73 corners of the Nordschleife, along with around 300 metres of elevation change and varying surface conditions, without any driver intervention. Xiaomi says its autonomous driving system continuously monitors vehicle behaviour and road conditions throughout the lap.

The system handles steering, braking and power delivery in real time to keep the car stable, particularly at high speed. Xiaomi is also using the project to gather data from extreme driving conditions to refine its autonomous tech further.

The 10:29.483 time is comparable to what a competent driver, but one without prior training on the Nordschleife, might achieve in a sports car. No other production car, including any Tesla, has previously lapped the Ring without a driver, though the time itself is not an outright record.

Xiaomi YU7 GT specifications

The YU7 GT is powered by a 101.7kWh battery pack feeding a dual-motor setup. Xiaomi quotes a peak output of 1,003hp for the powertrain, making the YU7 GT the brand's most powerful production SUV to date. This output translates to a 0-100km/h time of 2.92 seconds and a top speed of 300km/h. On the CLTC cycle, the YU7 GT returns a single-charge range of 705km.

The test car used for the autonomous Nurburgring run was specced with the Track Package, the same setup that helped the YU7 GT set its 7 minute 22.755 second production SUV lap record in April 2026.
