India-Spec Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Revealed Ahead Of Launch
Volkswagen has revealed the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line in India-bound specification ahead of its planned launch in Q1 2026. The Tayron R-Line will serve as Volkswagen's new flagship SUV for the Indian market, replacing the Tiguan Allspace in the brand's line-up.
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is built on the MQB EVO platform and is configured as a three-row, seven-seat SUV. It measures significantly larger than the Tiguan, with a wheelbase of 2,789mm, which is 109mm longer than the Tiguan R-Line. The increased wheelbase is intended to improve second- and third-row passenger space.

In terms of safety, the Tayron R-Line has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating, reflecting its structural integrity and safety equipment offered in global markets.

The Tayron R-Line features sport-specific exterior elements, including aggressive R-Line bumpers, R-Line badging, and large 19-inch alloy wheels. Lighting duties are handled by IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix LED headlamps, paired with a full-width LED light signature at the front and rear. The SUV adopts a wide stance with pronounced shoulder lines and a sculpted rear profile to differentiate it from smaller Volkswagen SUVs.

Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, angled towards the driver. This is paired with a fully digital instrument cluster and touch-based controls for key vehicle functions. The cabin also features 30-colour ambient lighting, premium upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof.
Front seats come with ventilation and massage functions. The second row offers a split-folding bench, while the third row is designed for occasional adult use. With the third row folded, the Tayron R-Line offers up to 850 litres of boot space.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Powertrain Details
Volkswagen has not officially confirmed final India-spec powertrain options. However, the Tayron R-Line is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, producing around 204PS and 320Nm of torque. This engine is likely to be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, similar to the setup offered on the Tiguan R-Line.

The Tayron R-Line will sit above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen India's portfolio and will be positioned as a premium three-row SUV. It is expected to be offered as a CBU or CKD, though Volkswagen has not confirmed the localisation strategy or pricing details for the Indian market.
