VinFast Takes On Ola And Uber With 15,000 Electric Taxis Planned For India
Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has entered India's commercial mobility sector through its Green SM electric taxi service. The fully electric cab platform has already commenced operations in key regions such as Gurugram and the wider Delhi-NCR area.
Green SM Electric Taxi Service by VinFast
VinFast recently entered the Indian passenger vehicle market and is competing with established EV players such as Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor India, and Mahindra. The company has quickly emerged as one of the leading electric vehicle brands in the country, even surpassing Hyundai Motor India in EV sales.

Unlike many of its rivals, VinFast is also looking to establish a presence in the commercial mobility segment. While ride-hailing services in India are largely dominated by Ola and Uber, the Vietnamese automaker sees significant potential in the market through its Green and Smart Mobility (Green SM) business.
The Green SM service has initially launched in the Delhi-NCR and Gurugram regions with a fleet of 1,000 electric cabs. The company plans to rapidly expand operations, targeting a fleet size of 15,000 vehicles within the next seven months. Expansion into major cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad is also expected in the near future.
Premium EV MPV For Taxi services

For its commercial operations, VinFast will deploy the recently launched Limo Green, a seven-seater electric MPV priced at Rs 24.5 lakh (ex-showroom). These vehicles will be finished in a distinctive turquoise colour, giving Green SM a unique and easily recognisable identity on Indian roads.
The service will directly compete with established ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber, which currently dominate the market. Being fully electric, the fleet promises lower operating costs, zero tailpipe emissions, and a quieter, more refined travel experience for passengers.
VinFast is also focusing on driver welfare and service quality. Drivers will receive performance-based incentives and additional benefits for maintaining high customer satisfaction standards. The company claims that drivers can earn up to Rs 40,000 per month through the platform.

The Limo Green MPVs are manufactured at VinFast's facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. In addition to serving the domestic market, the vehicles are also expected to be exported to several international markets across Southeast Asia.
Green SM has already established a strong presence in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, where it operates successful electric taxi services. VinFast is now aiming to replicate that success in India and gradually capture market share from established players.
VinFast EV Scooter Range
Beyond electric cars and taxi services, VinFast is also evaluating the introduction of its electric scooter range in India. With demand for electric two-wheelers growing rapidly due to rising fuel prices and increasing urban adoption, the company sees a significant opportunity to expand its footprint and strengthen its position in the country's fast-growing EV market.
