Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV India Launch Expectations: Range, Battery, Features & Rivals
Toyota is gearing up to launch its first-ever electric SUV in India. The Urban Cruiser EV will launch as the brand's first electric offering and is based on Maruti Suzuki's eVitara. However, there will be some Toyota-specific features on offer. Here are the key things to know about the Urban Cruiser Electric SUV ahead of its launch.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV Expectations
Same Platform as Maruti Suzuki eVitara
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki share a strategic partnership and currently use multiple shared platforms. The new Urban Cruiser EV will be built on the same platform as the recently launched Maruti Suzuki eVitara.

As a result, there could be several similarities between the two cars, including overall dimensions, size, powertrains, and design elements. Like the eVitara, the Urban Cruiser EV will also be positioned as a subcompact electric SUV.
Powertrain & Range
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will be offered with two different battery pack options. The 49 kWh battery pack produces 144 hp of power and is expected to deliver a maximum range of up to 343 km on a single charge.

The larger 61 kWh battery pack generates 174 hp of power and claims a maximum range of up to 425 km on a single charge. Both variants will feature a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.
Toyota's Signature Elements
Although the Urban Cruiser EV shares its platform with the eVitara, the exterior design will feature Toyota-specific elements, including a unique front grille, redesigned bumpers, tail section, LED headlights, and alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is expected to follow Toyota's design language with a full blacked-out theme and gloss-finish elements.

Technology Features
The technology features are expected to be similar to those of the eVitara. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV should likely feature the same infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.
Additionally, it may offer a 360-degree camera system, Level 2 ADAS, and six airbags as standard safety features. Other expected features include wireless charging, Type-C fast charging ports, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Price and Rivals
The Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be priced at around ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with models such as the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 06, and its sibling, the Maruti Suzuki eVitara.
