Toyota Launches Its First Electric SUV In India: Urban Cruiser Ebella With 543 km Range

Japanese automaker Toyota has launched its first-ever electric car for the Indian market. As expected, it is an SUV called the Urban Cruiser Ebella. This electric SUV is based on the Maruti Suzuki eVitara and shares many of its design, battery powertrains, features, and technologies, with minor tweaks and changes. Here's what Toyota offers with its electric SUV.

Exterior

The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV features Toyota's signature hammerhead front grille and LED lighting, which is more streamlined and paired with eyebrow-like LED DRLs. The bonnet design is also more sculpted and bold, giving it a big SUV stance.

Overall, the front section looks more distinctive and premium. The side profile remains identical, but Toyota has introduced a new 18-inch alloy wheel design. The rear features connected LED taillamps with slim light bars.

Interiors

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella gets a dual-tone brown and black interior with soft-touch materials and a two-spoke squircle steering wheel. However, the cabin looks slightly sportier thanks to the piano-black dial-type centre console. The instrument cluster and infotainment system remain identical to the eVitara, with no major changes to the layout.

Technology and Features

The SUV features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system, though the UI has been tweaked for Toyota branding. Other Key highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, reclining and sliding rear seats, Toyota's 100+ connectivity features, a 12 colour ambient lighting system, a JBL premium sound system, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Powertrains

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is powered by the same powertrain setup as the Maruti Suzuki eVitara. It comes with an FWD system with two (LFP) battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh, both equipped with a battery thermal management system.

The smaller 49 kWh battery pack produces 106 kW of power and 189 Nm of torque, while the larger 61 kWh battery pack produces 128 kW of power and 189 NM of torque. It delivers a maximum claimed range of up to 543 km. It is also compatible with both AC and DC fast charging facilities.

Premium Ownership experience

The battery is offered with an 8-year warranty and a 60% assured buyback after three years. Buyers can also opt for Toyota's BaaS (Battery as a Service) program by purchasing the car without the battery and paying a monthly subscription instead.

Toyota further assures 24×7 roadside assistance, over 500 BEV-enabled service touchpoints, more than 2,500 trained BEV technicians, and a 45-minute quick periodic maintenance schedule.

Safety and Features

It comes equipped with a standard 7 Airbag system across all the variants, along with Level 2 ADAS safety features including Auto emergency braking, Lane assist, blind spot monitoring system, rear-cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Other features include ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, ESP, and parking sensors. The suspension is also well-tuned for Indian road conditions, offering excellent drivability and comfort.

The car is built using high-tensile materials, ensuring a secure driving experience. We believe the Urban Cruiser EV is also a 5-star capable machine, as the eVitara scored a 5-star BNCAP rating.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Electric SUV is offered in five monotone and four dual-tone colour options. Pricing details will be announced shortly and will be updated once revealed. Toyota has opened bookings from January 20, 2026, with interested buyers required to pay a ₹25,000 booking amount to reserve the electric SUV.
