Toyota Innova HyCross Crosses 2 Lakh Sales Milestone In Just 3 Years - Still The King Of MPVs
Japanese carmaker Toyota has announced that the Innova HyCross has crossed cumulative sales of 2 lakh units in India. Since its sales started in January 2023, the strong hybrid Toyota Innova Hycross MPV has seen strong demand, quickly becoming a key contributor to Toyota's overall volumes.
For Toyota, the milestone signals a clear and growing appetite among Indian buyers for self-charging hybrid technology in the premium MPV segment, where the HyCross is now the dominant nameplate in Toyota's own lineup.

Toyota Innova HyCross Sales vs Toyota Innova Crysta: A Widening Sales Gap
Sales data show that the Innova HyCross steadily gained ground against the Innova Crysta. In CY2023, HyCross sold 45,916 units, already ahead of Crysta's 38,156 units. The gap widened further in CY2024 and CY2025, with HyCross consistently outperforming its diesel counterpart.
However, the decline in Crysta numbers is not entirely demand-driven. Back in 2022, production of the Crysta was temporarily halted due to regulatory changes and a realignment of its position in the market by Toyota. When reintroduced, the Crysta was offered only with a manual gearbox, with the automatic variant discontinued.
This effectively reduced Crysta's appeal, especially among urban buyers, while allowing Toyota to push the HyCross more aggressively. However, the Innova Crysta continues to enjoy strong demand, particularly in the fleet and taxi segment, where its diesel engine remains highly preferred.
Toyota Innova HyCross: Powertrain & Other Highlights
A key reason for HyCross's success is its strong hybrid powertrain. It uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with Toyota's 5th-generation self-charging hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 186 PS. The hybrid setup enables significant EV-mode driving in city conditions, improving fuel efficiency and lowering emissions. Being a self-charging strong hybrid electric vehicle, the Innova HyCross is capable of running 40 per cent of the distance and 60 per cent of the time in electric or zero-emission mode.
The non-hybrid petrol variant of the Innova Hycross uses the same 1,987cc engine in naturally aspirated form. This version of the petrol engine used by the Innova Hycross produces 173bhp and 209Nm and is paired to a CVT gearbox. Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of 23.24 kmpl for the hybrid and 16.13 kmpl for the petrol variant.
The Innova HyCross is equipped with class-leading features, including powered Ottoman second-row seats, ventilated front seats, dual-zone air conditioning, Toyota Safety Sense ADAS, and over 65 connected features.
Built on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA), the Innova HyCross is offered in 7-seater and 8-seater configurations, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm and an overall length of 4,755 mm. The Innova Hycross has also secured a 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP testing.
Prices for the Toyota Innova Hycross start from Rs 19.53 lakh (ex-showroom), with hybrid variants offering an 8-year warranty for the battery pack.
