India has become an SUV-dominated market, where many so-called SUVs are essentially crossovers. Instead of opting for these jacked-up crossovers, buyers can choose hatchbacks, which make far more sense and offer better value in the long run.

Compared to SUVs, hatchbacks offer significantly better value in terms of starting price. If an SUV starts at around ₹6 lakh, a hatchback may cost around ₹3 lakh, which is nearly half the cost.

Many buyers choose a five-seater SUV purely for its looks and end up paying a premium price. A similar five-seater hatchback offers practicality at a much more affordable price. If saving money is a priority, hatchbacks make more sense.

Superior Driving and Handling

Hatchbacks generally offer better driving dynamics and handling than SUVs. Hatchbacks' lower height and ground clearance result in improved control and stability. The aerodynamics of hatchbacks allow them to cruise comfortably, and their low centre of gravity keeps them well planted on the road.

Hatchbacks are also easy and confidence-inspiring to drive. In comparison, SUVs are prone to body roll in corners, especially at higher speeds. Despite having smaller engines and power outputs than SUVs, Hatchbacks will feel a lot more aggressive with their acceleration.

If your driving is largely in cities, buying a hatchback is the smarter choice. If you frequently drive on highways or uneven roads, an SUV or a sedan may be a better pick.
