Top 10 Best-Selling Hatchbacks In May 2026 – Baleno Leads WagonR, Swift
India's hatchback segment recorded total sales of 92,837 units in May 2026, a decline of 3.2% over April 2026 but a healthy 25.3% increase compared to May last year.
Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the rankings with six models in the top 10, while Hyundai, Tata and Toyota also secured places on the list. Here's a look at the country's best-selling hatchbacks during the month.

1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno - 18,396 Units
The Maruti Baleno emerged as the best-selling hatchback in May 2026 with sales of 18,396 units. The premium hatchback registered marginal month-on-month growth of 0.49%, adding 90 units over April. Compared to May 2025, Baleno sales surged by 58.3%, helping it secure nearly 20% of the hatchback market.
2. Maruti Suzuki WagonR - 18,076 Units
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR finished a close second with 18,076 units. While sales dipped 3.1% from April, the tall-boy hatchback continued to enjoy strong demand, posting a 29.6% year-on-year increase. It accounted for 19.5% of total hatchback sales during the month of May 2026.
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift - 17,519 Units
The Maruti Suzuki Swift remained one of India's most popular hatchbacks, recording sales of 17,519 units. The model witnessed a slight 1.7% MoM decline but delivered healthy YoY growth of 23.9%. Swift held an 18.9% share of the hatchback segment.
4. Maruti Suzuki Alto - 9,887 Units
The Alto continued to attract entry-level buyers with sales of 9,887 units. Despite an 8.9% drop from April, the hatchback almost doubled its sales compared to the same month last year, registering a 98.9% YoY increase.
5. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso - 6,388 Units
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso posted one of the strongest performances among the top sellers. Sales climbed 22.6% month-on-month to 6,388 units, while YoY growth stood at an impressive 253.7%. The model ranked fifth overall and captured a 6.9% market share.
6. Hyundai i20 - 4,749 Units
Hyundai's premium hatchback, the i20, recorded sales of 4,749 units. Volumes were down 15.6% compared to April, though the model still managed a 16.1% increase over May 2025. Hyundai recently pulled the covers of the 4th gen i20 in Brazil.
7. Tata Tiago - 4,178 Units
Including EV sales, Tata Tiago registered 4,178 units in May 2026. The hatchback saw declines on both MoM and YoY bases, falling 23.9% and 34.8% respectively. Even so, it remained Tata's highest-ranked hatchback.
8. Toyota Glanza - 3,198 Units
The Toyota Glanza secured eighth place with sales of 3,198 units. The Baleno-based hatchback reported a 4.8% decline over April and a steeper 32.7% drop compared to May 2025.
9. Maruti Suzuki Celerio - 3,018 Units
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio took the 9th spot on the top 10 hatchbacks of May 2026 with sales of 3,018 units. It posted healthy growth of 31.5% month-on-month and 62.2% year-on-year, making it one of the stronger gainers among mainstream hatchbacks.
10. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios - 2,920 Units
Rounding out the top 10 was the Grand i10 Nios with sales of 2,920 units. The hatchback experienced a 29.6% MoM decline and was down 32.8% compared to May 2025.
The Tata Altroz narrowly missed the list with 2,915 units sold last month, while MG Comet EV, Citroen C3, Renault Kwid and Citroen eC3 EV followed further behind. Despite a monthly slowdown, the hatchback segment posted strong year-on-year growth, led by Maruti Suzuki's continued dominance across multiple price points.
