Top 10 Carmakers April 2026 Sales: Maruti Sets New Record, Tata & Mahindra Complete Podium

India's passenger vehicle market turned in a mixed April, with Maruti Suzuki setting a domestic sales record while most other carmakers saw month-on-month dips. Tata Motors held second place ahead of Mahindra, with the two separated by fewer than 3,000 units. Hyundai, Toyota and Kia rounded out the top six.

Renault posted the sharpest year-on-year growth of any major brand: up 108 percent: boosted by the Duster's delivery rollout following its March launch. Nissan also grew 45.5 percent year-on-year, though both brands continue to operate at the lower end of the volume table.

Maruti Suzuki: 1,87,704 units | +35% YoY | +10.8% MoM

Maruti Suzuki recorded 1,87,704 domestic units in April 2026: its highest-ever monthly total. The compact and mid-size segment accounted for 80,659 units, while the Alto K10, WagonR and S-Presso together contributed 16,066 units. The newly launched eVitara added 2,006 units, with approximately 85 percent of those coming from the larger 61kWh battery variant.

Tata Motors: 59,000 units | +30.5% YoY | -11.9% MoM

Tata Motors shifted around 59,000 units in April, up from 45,199 units in April 2025. The Nexon and Punch remained key volume drivers. Electric vehicle sales rose 72.1 percent year-on-year, though overall volumes slipped nearly 12 percent compared to March's 66,971 units.

Mahindra: 56,331 units | +8% YoY | -6.5% MoM

Mahindra posted 56,331 units in April, up from 52,330 units a year earlier. Month-on-month, volumes fell 6.5 percent from March's 60,272 units. The Scorpio, Thar and XUV range continued to carry the bulk of sales.

Hyundai: 51,902 units | +17% YoY | -5.7% MoM

Hyundai sold 51,902 units in April, retaining fourth spot. The Venue registered its highest-ever monthly domestic sales at 12,420 units, a performance Hyundai attributed in part to the model's recent five-star Bharat NCAP rating. The Creta, Exter, Grand i10 Nios and i20 also contributed to the tally.

Toyota: 30,159 units | +21% YoY | -14.1% MoM

Toyota recorded 30,159 units in April, up from 24,833 units in April 2025 but down sharply from March's 35,125 units. The Innova HyCross crossed the two-lakh cumulative sales milestone during the month. The Hyryder and Fortuner continued as volume anchors. The brand has also revealed the Urban Cruiser EBella, its first India-market EV, with pricing expected soon.

Kia: 27,286 units | +16% YoY | -6.3% MoM

South Korean carmkaer Kia reported 27,286 units in April: the brand's highest-ever April tally. Both the Seltos and Sonet SUVs crossed the 10,000-unit mark individually, with the Carens Clavis MPV also contributing significant numbers to the total sales numbers.

JSW MG Motor India: 6,018 units | +3% YoY | -7.8% MoM

MG Motor sold 6,018 units in April, holding steady at the lower end of the table. MG will reveal the prices for its Fortuner rivalling Majestor diesel D-Segment SUV later this month when deliveries commence.

Renault: 5,413 units | +108% YoY | +7.3% MoM

Renault doubled its year-on-year volumes to 5,413 units, driven by the start of deliveries for the all-new Duster last month. The Kiger and an updated Triber supported the rest of the brand's sales. THe French carmaker also announced new platforms for its upcoming batch of cars for the Indian market last month.

Honda: 4,069 units | +21% YoY | -46.4% MoM

Japanese carmaker Honda sold 4,069 units in April, a steep 46.4 percent drop from March's 7,585 units despite a 21 percent year-on-year gain. The City, Amaze and Elevate make up its current India line-up. Honda 0 Alpha EV is xurrently undergoing pan-India testing and the Japanese marque plans to launch the facelifted City sedan in India this month.

Nissan: 3,203 units | +45.5% YoY | -27.3% MoM

Nissan posted 3,203 units in April, up 45.5 percent year-on-year. The Magnite and the recently introduced Gravite MPV are its two active offerings in India. The Japanese carmaker is currently workingon introducing the Tekton, its version of the Duster, to the Indian market.
