Maruti Suzuki dominated India's passenger vehicle sales rankings in May 2026, claiming the top three positions and placing six models in the top 10. The Dzire held the number one spot for another month, while the Fronx climbed two positions to rank second and the Ertiga retained third for the second consecutive month.
The top 10 best-selling cars for May 2026 features the same models as April 2026, though several have shifted positions. Alongside six Maruti models, the list includes two from Tata and one each from Mahindra and Hyundai.

1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Dzire accounted for 24,546 units sold in May 2026, up 36 percent year-on-year from 18,084 units in May 2025. Month-on-month, sales grew by 966 units over April 2026, keeping the compact sedan at the top of the chart for yet another month.
Priced from Rs 6.26 lakh to Rs 9.31 lakh, the Dzire competes in the compact sedan segment against the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Honda Amaze. It remains the only sedan in the top 10 and was the bestselling car of the previous financial year.
2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Fronx climbed two positions to second place in May 2026 with 20,686 units sold, up 52 percent from 13,584 units in May 2025. Sales also grew by 1,857 units over April 2026, making it the biggest monthly gainer among the top three.
The compact Fronx crossover is priced from Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 11.84 lakh. It rivals the Nissan Magnite, Citroen C3, Toyota Taisor, and Renault Kiger in the sub-4-metre crossover space.
3. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Ertiga held third place for the second consecutive month, selling 20,350 units in May 2026 - a 26 percent YoY increase. Sales were also up 1,287 units compared to April 2026, consolidating its position as India's best-selling MPV.
Priced from Rs 8.80 lakh to Rs 12.94 lakh, the Ertiga competes with the Toyota Rumion and Kia Carens. It is the only MPV on the top 10 list.
4. Tata Punch / EV
Sales of the Punch micro SUV (Both ICE and Punch EV) reached 20,208 units in May 2026, a 54 percent YoY increase. Tata sold an additional 1,101 units over April 2026 but still slipped two positions from second to fourth due to the Fronx and Ertiga's stronger growth.
The Tata Punch range is priced from Rs 5.65 lakh to Rs 10.60 lakh. It competes with the Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3 in the micro-SUV segment.
5. Tata Nexon / EV
The Tata Nexon gained two places to rank fifth in May 2026 with 19,100 units sold, posting 46 percent YoY growth. The compact Tata Nexon SUV is offered across petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains, priced from Rs 7.37 lakh to Rs 14.02 lakh.
It competes with the Maruti Brezza, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. The Nexon's multi-powertrain lineup continues to support broad volume across the range.
6. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno posted the highest YoY growth rate of any model on this list at 58 percent, selling 18,396 units in May 2026. Month-on-month, sales were up by 90 units over April 2026, allowing it to maintain a steady hold on sixth position.
Maruti's premium Baleno hatchback is priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.10 lakh. Its key rivals include the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20.
7. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The Wagon R dropped two spots to seventh in May 2026 with 18,076 units, despite recording 30 percent YoY growth. Sales slipped 572 units below April 2026 figures, contributing to the rank decline.
Maruti's tall-boy hatchback is priced from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.40 lakh. It competes with the Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago in the entry-level hatchback segment. Earlier this month, Maruti Suzuki revealed an E85 compliant version of the Wagon R.
8. Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Swift sold 17,519 units in May 2026, a 24 percent YoY increase. Like the Wagon R, the hatchback saw a marginal month-on-month dip, with May 2026 sales coming in 310 units below April 2026.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced from Rs 5.79 lakh to Rs 8.64 lakh and competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago. The Swift is the sixth and final Maruti model in this month's top 10.
9. Mahindra Scorpio / N
The Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N together sold 15,774 units in May 2026, recording 10 percent YoY growth. The combined tally for the Mahindra Scorpio lineup was 1,055 units ahead of April 2026, allowing the large SUV to edge past the Hyundai Creta to take ninth place.
The Scorpio N is priced from Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 24.95 lakh and rivals the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV 7XO, and Tata Safari in the three-row SUV space.
10. Hyundai Creta / EV
The Hyundai Creta sold 15,523 units in May 2026, posting the lowest YoY growth rate on the list at 3 percent. Sales of the Creta in May were 232 units more than that achieved in April 2026, though the model slipped one position to tenth as the Scorpio outpaced it last month.
Priced from Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 19.91 lakh, the Creta faces competition from the Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Maruti Victoris in the mid-size SUV segment.
