Tesla Is Coming To Bengaluru: EV Giant Set To Open New Dealership In India’s Silicon Valley
American carmaker and one of the world's leading electric vehicle manufacturers, Tesla, has officially stated that it will soon arrive in Bengaluru. India's Silicon Valley already hosts some of the world's biggest automotive brands, including Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Lamborghini, and now Tesla will join this elite list.
Tesla Arriving in Bengaluru
Tesla entered the Indian market last year with its Model Y. The company already has dealerships in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram. Now, Bengaluru will become its fourth operating city, which Tesla confirmed via an X post stating, "See you soon in Bengaluru."

Recently, Tesla has installed Supercharger stations in Gurugram and Mumbai, and we expect the company to set up Supercharger stations in Bengaluru as well, once its dealership opens in India's Silicon Valley.
Elon Musk's car brand does not currently have a manufacturing facility in India, and the Model Y is imported from overseas as a Completely Built-Up unit (CBU) on an order basis. The brand is already gaining traction in the Indian market, with bookings steadily increasing over the past few months.

Since the vehicles are imported into the domestic market, Tesla is required to pay higher tariffs, resulting in a starting price of 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). However, we anticipate that Tesla may establish a manufacturing facility in India within the next few years, which could help bring prices down to under 40 lakh (ex-showroom), making the brand more affordable and competitive.
Tesla is also currently testing its Autopilot system, specially programmed to handle India's unique driving conditions and unpredictable road environments. Globally, Tesla's market share has started to face pressure following the entry of Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, Geely, and SAIC.
Even in the Indian market, BYD is performing strongly, with sales growing each month as more buyers opt for its electric cars, which are more affordable, efficient, and equipped with advanced technology. To effectively compete, Tesla should focus more on local manufacturing, or at least on local assembly, as this could significantly reduce costs and make its offerings more accessible and practical for Indian consumers.
