Tata Sierra ARAI-Certified Mileage Revealed Via RTI: Turbo-Petrol Is A Guzzler, Diesel The One To Buy

The ARAI-certified mileage figures for the Tata Sierra have finally been revealed, thanks to a response to an RTI query, months after the SUV's launch in November 2025. The data revealed in the RTI response by the ARAI confirms the fuel efficiency figures for the turbo-petrol and diesel variants of the Tata Sierra.

The RTI request was filed by X(formerly Twitter) user VahanWarta, with the response sourced from The Automotive Research Association of India. The figures provide the first official confirmation of Sierra's certified mileage values, which were not available before.

Tata Sierra - ARAI-Certified Mileage Revealed

The Tata Sierra is offered with a choice of three engine options - a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (Revotron) petrol delivering 106PS and 145Nm, a turbocharged (Hyperion) 1.5-litre petrol engine kicking out 160PS and 255Nm and a 1.5-litre (Kryojet) diesel engine pushing out 118PS and 260Nm (280Nm with the automatic gearbox).

As per the response to the RTI request made by VahanWarta, the ARAI has revealed that the turbocharged 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion engine offered with the Sierra delivers a certified mileage of 13.5 km/l. The mileage of the turbocharged petrol engine of the Tata Sierra was certified on the 11th of December 2025.

The 1.5-litre Kryotec diesel engine, on the other hand, returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.8km/l. The diesel engine for the Tata Sierra had its mileage certified by the ARAI on the 21st of November, 2025.

Interestingly, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for the Tata Sierra does not yet have an ARAI-certified mileage figure, as a certificate has not been issued so far for this powerplant, which is offered with the lower-spec versions of the Sierra.

At the time of launch, Tata Motors had highlighted a separate mileage figure for the turbo-petrol engine. The company recorded 29.9 kmpl during a controlled 12-hour run at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore. This record was not an ARAI-certified mileage run and was therefore presented by Tata Motors as a test achievement under very specific conditions.

Despite the lack of any ARAI-certified mileage figures, the Tata Sierra has recorded strong demand since launch. Bookings crossed 70,000 units within 24 hours of opening and later surpassed the 1 lakh mark with ease, indicating sustained demand despite the absence of official mileage figures at launch. Deliveries of the Tata Sierra began on January 15, 2026, and Tata Motors has already delivered over 10,000 units of the SUV till date.

The Tata Siera is currently being manufactured at Tata Motors' Sanand facility, alongside the smaller Nexon SUV. Tata Motors is ramping up production to meet the extraordinary demand for the Sierra, and production output is expected to reach around 15,000 units per month. An electric version of the Sierra is also in development and is expected to be introduced in q1 2027.
