Tata Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition Revealed: A Silent EV For Forests And Wildlife Tours

Tata Motors has unveiled a special Sanctuary Edition of the Tata Sierra EV, purpose-built for wildlife safaris and forest conservation duties. Designed as a cleaner and quieter alternative, this electric SUV aims to replace ageing conventional safari vehicles currently used across forest reserves.

India's forests remain some of the cleanest and most pollution-free environments in the country. However, many of the vehicles currently used by forest officials and tourists still rely on ageing diesel-powered off-roaders.

The modified old-generation Tata Safari and the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy continue to be among the most commonly used vehicles for wildlife safaris. Taking this into consideration, Tata Motors has developed a fully electric Sierra EV specifically tailored for forest reserves and sanctuaries.

The Sierra EV Sanctuary Edition comes equipped with all-terrain tyres, a dedicated bull bar, electric winch, 360-degree camera, and multiple adventure-ready accessories to enhance its off-road capability. It is expected to replicate the same power output as the regular Sierra EV.

To improve visibility for safari rides, Tata has reworked the structure by removing the B and C pillars - a signature design element of the Sierra nameplate. In place of this, the SUV now gets a large high-mounted roll cage inspired by traditional safari vehicles.

The third-row seats are positioned in a stadium-style layout, giving passengers a commanding view of the surrounding flora and fauna. A step ladder also makes climbing in and out easier. paired with zero tailpipe emissions, a sustainable cabin layout, and Tata's advanced 5-link Ultra Glide rear suspension.

The Sierra EV Safari Edition is expected to use the larger 75kWh battery pack paired with a quad-wheel-drive (QWD) setup, making it ideal for daily safari operations. Tata claims an ARAI-certified range of up to 665km, allowing it to operate throughout the day without frequent charging.

This not only reduces pollution but also helps minimise disturbance to wildlife in their natural habitat. The standard Sierra EV was launched at a starting price of 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
