Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has started FY27 strong, registering total sales of 182,574 cars and SUVs in the first quarter of the financial year. This marks a significant 46 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 124,809 units sold during the same period in FY26.

Tata Motors Posts Strong Q1 FY27 Sales Growth

The sales figures include both domestic and international markets, underlining the company's growing momentum across key passenger vehicle segments. Tata Motors has continued to strengthen its position in India's highly competitive car market, driven by strong demand for its SUV portfolio and rising interest in electric vehicles.

A key highlight of Tata Motors' Q1 FY27 performance was the growing contribution of electric vehicles to its overall sales. The company revealed that EVs accounted for 23 percent of its total passenger vehicle sales during the quarter, marking its highest-ever EV penetration to date.

Tata Sees Strong Demand For EVs

This milestone reflects the increasing shift towards electric mobility in India, where Tata Motors remains one of the leading players in the segment. The automaker's EV lineup, which includes models such as the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Tiago EV, and Tata Curvv EV, has played a crucial role in driving this growth.

Adding to the momentum, Tata Motors stated that one in every three new bookings, accounting for 33 percent, is now for an electric vehicle. This indicates a strong rise in mainstream EV acceptance among Indian car buyers.

With EV demand continuing to grow and its SUV portfolio remaining popular, Tata Motors appears well-positioned to sustain its growth trajectory in the coming quarters. Further strengthening its EV portfolio, Tata Motors recently launched the Sierra EV in India with class leading range and QWD drive (quad-wheel-drive) setup making it one of the attractive SUVs in the Compact EV SUV segment.

Built on the same platform as the Tata Harrier EV, it shares several components, including the battery setup at a starting price of 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Overall, Tata Motors continues to strengthen its position across both ICE and EV segments, emerging as one of the key leaders in the passenger vehicle market.
