Tata Motors & JLR Start Production At New TN Plant - Range Rover Evoque First Car To Roll Out
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and its subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover have commenced operations at their new manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu, with the first vehicle rolling out as the Range Rover Evoque produced locally for JLR.
The new manufacturing plant was inaugurated today by Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin and N. Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of the Tata Group. The opening ceremony for the new Tata Motors JLR plant was attended by state ministers, government officials and senior executives from TMPV, JLR and the Tata Group.
The Panapakkam site marks the first phase of a greenfield manufacturing facility planned to produce next-generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover. The new Tamil Nadu plant will progressively scale up its output to reach a designed annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles over the next five to seven years.
Production from the new Tamil Nadu plant will cater to both domestic and international markets as part of the group's broader manufacturing strategy. The new production site is expected to support future product programmes, including electric vehicles, alongside conventional ICE and Hybrid powertrains.

The new Tata Motors & JLR facility in Tamil Nadu incorporates multiple sustainability measures and has been designed to operate entirely on renewable energy while remaining water positive, thanks to processes aligned with global environmental standards.
Tata Motors will invest approximately ₹9,000 crore in the facility to support long-term growth. The new production facility is expected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities and contribute to the development of the regional supplier ecosystem.

Shopfloor technicians at the new production plant in Panapakkam have been recruited from across Tamil Nadu through Tata Motors' Lakshya programme. These technicians completed five months of hands-on training at Jaguar Land Rover facilities and are offered the opportunity to pursue a company-sponsored B.Tech degree while employed.
The new Panapakkam facility signals a deeper integration between Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover, positioning India as a core manufacturing base rather than solely a sales or CKD assembly market. The site expands the group's domestic production footprint and supports shared operations across both brands.
