Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol Variants Launched In India, Prices Start At 12.89 Lakh

Tata Motors has launched its flagship ICE SUVs, the Harrier and the Safari, with an all-new petrol powertrain. Prices for the two SUVs start at 12.89 lakh and 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Both models are now powered by the more powerful 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, which was earlier introduced with the Sierra SUV. The Harrier and Safari continue to be based on the Land Rover-derived OMEGARC platform.

Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol Prices

The Harrier petrol range starts at 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec Fearless Ultra Red Dark edition is priced at 24.68 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Safari petrol is priced from 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top-end Accomplished Ultra Red Dark edition selling at 25.19 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are introductory and could be limited to only a few months.

1.5L Hyperion Turbo Petrol Engine

This new 1.5L 4-cylinder Petrol engine produces 170 PS of power at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. They are paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed Automatic transmission (Torque Converter). The new Hyperion petrol engine is claimed to be both powerful and fuel-efficient, as Tata claims these cars deliver segment-leading fuel efficiency.

What's New?

The interior design and themes of both SUVs have been completely revamped to offer a more modern and upmarket experience. The Tata Harrier now features a new Signature Oyster White & Titan Brown interior theme for the Fearless Ultra variant. The Tata Safari gets a Carnelian Red & Black theme for the Red Dark edition. Additionally, it features 19-inch blackstone alloys.

New additions include a 36.9cm cinematic infotainment display powered by Samsung Neo OLED technology, paired with a Dolby Atmos audio system. Other highlights include the Vision X E-IRVM and a built-in dashcam with video recording functionality, wing-type headrests, Vision Sync memory ORVMs with auto reverse dip, and a Clear View dual-camera washer system.

Both SUVs have achieved a perfect 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP, matching the safety scores of their diesel counterparts. With the introduction of the new petrol powertrain, both SUVs have become more accessible to the mass consumers, similar to Tata's recently launched Sierra SUV.

The Tata Harrier competes in the midsize SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and MG Hector. Meanwhile, the Tata Safari positions itself as a premium mid-size SUV rivaling models such as the Mahindra XUV700, Jeep Meridian, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and the Mahindra Scorpio N.
