Tata Aeris Sub-Compact Sedan Teased Ahead Of September 25 Launch - Tigor Replacement

Tata Motors will unveil the Tata Aeris sub-compact sedan in India on September 25, replacing the Tigor in the company's lineup. A new teaser video released by Tata Motors has revealed a few design details about the Aeris sedan ahead of the full reveal.

The Tata Aeris sub-4-metre sedan is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The replacement for the Tigor will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.

Tata Motors Cars Official has shared the teaser on YouTube, showing computer-generated cars covered in an eggshell-like shell in a parking lot. The shell cracks open to reveal the Aeris underneath, with its front-left profile and rear quarter panel visible in the video.

The teaser confirms an LED headlight design similar to the Tata Tiago, complete with an LED daytime running lamp on top. Sharp cuts and creases run along the body, while the bumper carries an LED fog light. The rest of the design stays covered and will only be shown in full on September 25.

The Tata Aeris continues to be built on the same platform as the Tiago and the outgoing Tigor. Tata is expected to make major changes to both the exterior and the cabin despite retaining the underlying architecture.

The Tata Aeris is likely to retain the notchback-like silhouette of the Tigor, with a slimmer grille, sharper LED headlamps, a new bumper, a sleeker lower air dam and redesigned fog lamps up front. The side profile is expected to stay largely unchanged, though new alloy wheel designs could freshen up the look. At the rear, the Aeris is tipped to gain connected LED tail lamps, a redesigned tailgate, a sculpted bumper and vertical reflectors.

Inside, the cabin of the Tata Aeris is expected to get a major equipment upgrade, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a semi-digital driver's display. Cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats and keyless entry with push-button start/stop are also expected.

In terms of safety equipment, six airbags are expected across the entire variant range of the Tata Aeris, along with ABS, EBD and ISOFIX mounts. ADAS is unlikely to be offered.

Tata Aeris: Engine And Powertrain Options

Mechanically, the Tata Aeris is expected to retain the Tigor's existing engine options, led by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit producing 86 PS and 113 Nm. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

A factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG version is also expected, developing 76 PS and 97 Nm, with both manual and AMT transmission options. Tata is also likely to introduce an electric version of the sedan, expected to be badged the Aeris.ev. Details on its battery, motor and range have not been revealed yet.
