Tata Aeris Launched at Rs 5.29 Lakh

Tata has launched the Aeris at Rs 5.29 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), positioning it as the facelifted successor to the outgoing Tigor compact sedan. The Tata Aeris borrows its exterior and interior design from the Tiago hatchback while carrying over the previous model's mechanicals.

Bookings for the Aeris are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin on October 11. Tata offers the Aeris across five trims, Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished, with petrol and CNG powertrain choices.

Introductory prices for the Tata Aeris range from Rs 5.29 lakh for the base Smart petrol manual to Rs 9.74 lakh for the top-spec Accomplished CNG AMT.

The Tata Aeris undercuts the outgoing Tigor at entry level but tops out higher, the older sedan was priced from Rs 5.70 lakh to Rs 9.10 lakh. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (Rs 6.31 lakh to Rs 9.54 lakh), Honda Amaze (Rs 7.65 lakh to Rs 10 lakh) and Hyundai Aura (Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8.67 lakh).

Tata Aeris: Engine & Gearbox

Power for the Tata Aeris comes from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 86hp and 113Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. The same engine runs on CNG at a reduced output of 76hp and 97Nm, with identical transmission choices. Both powertrains are carried over from the pre-facelift Tigor and the current Tiago.

Tata Aeris: Exterior Design and Dimensions

The Tata Aeris sports sleeker LED headlights with eyebrow-shaped DRLs and a gloss black grille headline the front-end changes, borrowed largely from the Tiago. Pixel-shaped LED fog lamps sit within a black-accented front bumper.

The Tata Aeris features 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels on higher variants, while the Smart, Pure and all CNG versions get 14-inch wheels. Slim wheel arch cladding, chrome door handles and a chrome window line trim are carried over from the Tiago's design.

Slimmer LED taillights connected by a red trim strip sit at the rear of the Tata Aeris, along with a high-mounted stop lamp stretching across the rear windscreen, similar to the older Tigor. A simplified rear bumper houses a centrally mounted reverse parking light. Six exterior shades are on offer for the Tata Aeris: Nitro Crimson, Pure Grey, Dandeli Drizzle, Pristine White, Daytona Grey and Dune Glow.

The Aeris CNG's dual-cylinder setup carries over the Tigor's 227-litre boot space, which would make it the largest among CNG sedans in the segment. The petrol version's 419-litre boot is close to the Amaze's 416 litres, and larger than the Dzire's 382 litres and the Aura's 402 litres.

Tata Aeris: Interior, Features and Safety

A lighter cabin theme for the Tata Aeris accompanies the Tiago-inspired dashboard layout, which is built around a free-standing semi-digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 2-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons. New additions include a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and leatherette upholstery.

The Tata Aeris gets a DashCam Recorder function that repurposes the surround-view cameras for dashcam footage. The 6-speaker audio system, though, is a downgrade from the previous model's 8-speaker setup.

The Tata Aeris gets six airbags as standard, alongside a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold control and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
