Sony & Honda Unveil Afeela Electric SUV Prototype, Launch Expected in 2028

Sony Honda Mobility has unveiled its Afeela electric SUV prototype at the CES 2026 event. Co-developed by the two Japanese brands, the production version of this model is expected to make its debut in 2028. The company had earlier showcased its Vision-S 02 concept at CES 2022.

Sony Honda's Electric SUV Prototype Unveiled

The Afeela electric SUV prototype's design is similar to the Afeela 1 sedan. The prototype features a sleek design with a closed grille connecting the two LED headlamps. The front end is completely sealed and looks clean, similar to many modern electric SUVs.

Although the design is derived from the Afeela 1 sedan, this electric SUV prototype features a coupe-style design with a flowing roofline. At the back, it gets fully connected tail lamps with thick black edges, along with a spoiler.

Overall, the design looks very clean and minimalistic, but the aesthetics make it even more appealing. The blacked-out roof blends seamlessly with the body and follows the same design lines as the Afeela sedan.

The brand has not unveiled the interior details or features of the car. However, we can see a triple-screen display on the dashboard, which is slowly becoming a common feature in modern vehicles, along with displays for the rear-seat passengers. Qualcomm could power this panoramic display, as they are in partnership.

With Sony's involvement, we are expecting a PlayStation console to be integrated into the third passenger screen, specifically for gaming, along with internet connectivity for seamless entertainment. Sensors visible on the windscreen and roof could be part of the Level 2 ADAS safety system.

We are also anticipating a self-driving feature in this electric SUV, as it is expected to launch in 2028. The car measures around 4.9 metres in length and has a long wheelbase, which should comfortably accommodate five passengers.

This unveils tells us how deeply Sony Honda Mobility is focusing on the future of mobility. Once launched in the US, it is expected to expand to Japan and Europe. The Afeela 1 sedan was also showcased at CES 2026 and is set to launch later this year in the US market, followed by Japan in 2027.
