Skoda Kylaq SUV To Get Sportline Version In India: More Style, Same Performance

Skoda Auto is planning to introduce a sportier version of the Kylaq SUV in the Indian market. This new variant is expected to be called the Kylaq Sportline and could feature several sporty cosmetic upgrades while retaining the same engine options.

According to Autocar India, the Czech carmaker has confirmed plans to bring the sporty trim of its best-selling Kylaq SUV during the festive season this year. The Kylaq has quickly emerged as one of the most popular models in the sub-4-metre SUV segment.

The SUV has been well-received by customers and enthusiasts who want a German-engineered product at a more accessible price point. Apart from its affordability, the Kylaq is also among the safest SUVs in India, with its MQB-A0-IN platform earning a 5-star safety rating.

Skoda Kylaq Sportline To Launch This Year

Now, Skoda is looking to add more appeal by introducing a Sportline trim, similar to what it offers on the larger Kushaq. The Sportline variant is expected to feature blacked-out alloy wheels, grille, roof rails, skid plates, Red Brake calipers, ORVMs, and sportier cabin elements, along with aluminium pedals, unique seat upholstery, and ambient lighting.

Mechanically, the SUV is likely to continue with the same 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 115PS and 178Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There is also speculation that Skoda could eventually pair this engine with its newly introduced 8-speed torque converter for better drivability and efficiency.

Currently, the Kylaq is available in Classic, Classic Plus, Signature, Signature Plus, Prestige, and Prestige Plus trims. If launched, the Sportline variant could be positioned just below the top-spec Prestige Plus trim.

Our Thoughts

While the Sportline trim adds more visual excitement, enthusiasts would certainly welcome a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI variant of the Kylaq, even in limited numbers. Although the chances of that happening remain slim, such a version could make the Kylaq a truly unique performance-focused offering in the sub-4-metre SUV segment.
