Skoda Kylaq CNG Likely On The Cards: A Big Move For Mass Buyers?
Skoda India is evaluating the possibility of introducing a CNG powertrain for its most affordable SUV, the Skoda Kylaq. According to an Autocar report, Skoda is considering offering a CNG kit for the Kylaq, which could improve fuel efficiency and make the SUV more competitive against rivals that already offer factory-fitted or dealer-level CNG options.
Skoda Considering CNG Kits for Kylaq
The sub-4-metre SUV segment is currently the most competitive space in the Indian car market. Several manufacturers are targeting this segment by launching new and affordable compact SUVs. Skoda introduced the Kylaq in late 2024, and since then, the model has recorded strong sales growth. The Skoda Kylaq crossed over 45,000 units in sales last year, emerging as a key model for the Skoda-Volkswagen Group in India.

Recently, during the launch of the Kushaq Facelift, Skoda also introduced two new Kylaq variants - Classic Plus and Prestige Plus. The Classic Plus variant, positioned between the base Classic and the Signature trim, offers features such as an electric sunroof and cruise control as standard, making the SUV more competitive in the segment.
Now, the company is exploring the possibility of introducing a CNG kit as an additional powertrain option for the Kylaq. Currently, the SUV is available only with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

With the addition of a CNG option, the Kylaq could appeal more strongly to mass-market buyers seeking higher fuel efficiency. The CNG version could be offered with the 6-speed manual transmission only. This move could help Skoda boost overall sales and gain additional market share in the compact SUV segment.
The CNG kits are expected to be offered as dealer-level retrofits, potentially with an additional warranty. However, the power output may be slightly reduced to improve fuel efficiency, and the boot space could also be impacted.
Skoda is also reportedly planning to introduce a Sportline variant of the Kylaq in the second half of this year, similar to the Monte Carlo edition offered on the Kushaq facelift, featuring a full blacked-out theme.
The Skoda Kylaq is priced from ₹7.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered in Classic, Classic Plus, Signature, Signature Plus, Prestige, and Prestige Plus variants, with prices going up to ₹12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes against rivals such as the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
