Big Changes Coming To Renault Kwid, Triber & Kiger – New Platform, More Features

Renault's most affordable models, such as the Renault Kwid, Renault Triber, and Renault Kiger, are set to undergo a major transformation. The Renault Group has introduced a new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform) architecture that will now support 1.0L turbo petrol engines as well as factory-fitted CNG options.

Big Changes Coming To Renault Kwid, Triber & Kiger

At the FutuReady event, held in Chennai, Renault showcased it's future roadmap for India through 2030. This includes plans to launch seven new models, capture 5% market share and significantly expand the group's export capabilities.

Entry-Level Segment

True to its purpose, the new platform is designed specifically for budget-conscious buyers and will underpin vehicles priced under ₹10 lakh. To further reduce input and manufacturing costs, Renault claims the platform is over 90% localised, with most key components sourced within India.

More Flexible Platform

The RGEP platform will replace the existing entry-level architecture and offers enhanced flexibility. It can support multiple body styles, including hatchbacks, SUVs, and MPVs, making it adaptable for a wide range of products.

Multiple Powertrain Support

The new platform is highly versatile, capable of supporting ICE, CNG, hybrid, and EV powertrains. It is also compatible with both 2WD and 4WD configurations, including for electric vehicles. Additionally, it can accommodate 5-, 6-, and 7-seater layouts, along with both AMT and CVT transmission options.

Under-Mounted Twin CNG Tanks

A key highlight of the RGEP platform is its support for factory-fitted CNG kits with dual cylinders mounted beneath the vehicle. This design frees up boot space and improves cabin practicality, especially for 7-seater models where luggage space is often compromised.

New Architecture and Connected Features

The RGEP platform is engineered to support modern electronics and advanced connectivity features, addressing one of the biggest drawbacks of budget cars-limited tech and infotainment options.

With this new architecture, Renault will be able to offer larger infotainment systems, connected car technology, and even ADAS features, significantly enhancing the overall user experience.

Upcoming Models and Expectations

Currently, the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger are based on the CMF-A platform, which are sold in entry-level segments. All three models are expected to transition to the new RGEP platform by 2027.

Going forward, the Kiger and Triber are likely to receive 1.0L turbo petrol and CNG powertrain options, while the Kwid could see improvements in safety and may even launch as an affordable EV.
