Renault Duster Could Soon Get A New Entry-Level Automatic Variant
Renault is planning to introduce a more affordable automatic variant of the Duster in India, likely in the entry-level trim. Currently, automatic transmission options are only available with the larger 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine.
The French automaker has brought back its iconic Duster SUV to the Indian market after several years of absence. The Duster was the model that originally kick-started the compact SUV trend in India, and now it has returned with more powerful engines and modern technology features.

The new Duster is offered with three engine options - a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.8-litre strong hybrid. While the first two powertrains are already on sale, the strong hybrid version is expected to go on sale during the festive season this year.
Renault Plans More Affordable Automatic Variant For Duster
At present, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and there is no automatic option. Renault has now indicated that a more affordable automatic variant is under consideration, although the company has not revealed the exact engine or transmission combination.

If Renault introduces an automatic with the 1.0-litre turbo engine, it could significantly improve accessibility for buyers looking for convenience at a lower price point. The same engine is already used in the Renault, where it is paired with a CVT automatic, making it a strong possibility for the Duster as well.
The Duster's 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine produces 100PS and 166Nm of torque, while the larger 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine develops 163PS and 280Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT with e-shifter.

Currently, the Evolution trim is the most affordable variant to get the 1.3-litre automatic powertrain priced at 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault could either bring this setup to the lower Authentic trim or introduce a new 1.0-litre automatic variant, possibly with a CVT or AMT gearbox.
Price
The Price of the Renault Duster SUV starts at 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and the top of the line iconic launch edition is priced at 17.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The Renault Duster rivals cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and the Tata Sierra.
