Renault Bridger ‘Mini Duster’ Compact SUV Planned For 2027 With Hybrid & EV Powertrains

Renault is preparing a new sub-4 metre compact SUV based on the upcoming Bridger concept, internally codenamed RB3-K2, for the Indian market. The new SUV is slated to launch around Diwali 2027, Autocar Professional reports.

The upcoming compact SUV based on the Bridger Concept will join Renault's lineup roughly 18 months after the next-generation Duster arrives in India. The SUV will form part of Renault's broader product expansion strategy for the country as the French marque works to rebuild its presence in one of the world's largest SUV markets.

Renault Bridger - To Be Positioned Between Kiger & Duster

The new compact SUV is positioned between the Renault Kiger and the next-generation Renault Duster in the brand's future lineup. The model targets India's highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment, which continues to deliver some of the highest volumes in the passenger vehicle market.

Renault's strategy involves introducing a mix of SUVs across segments to rebuild volumes in India. The upcoming compact SUV plays a key role in that plan, and will give the company a stronger presence in the entry-level SUV category.

The compact SUV will draw its design inspiration from Renault's Bridger concept, which will be revealed tomorrow and previews the company's evolving design language for global markets. Internally referred to as the RB3-K2 B-SUV, the model adopts a more upright stance than the Kiger and incorporates styling cues associated with the rugged character of the Duster.

Renault Bridger - Wide Range Of Powertrain Options

Renault plans a broad range of powertrain options for the compact Bridger SUV in order to address different customer needs and regulatory requirements. The lineup for the Renault Bridger will include naturally aspirated petrol and turbo-petrol engines, along with hybrid and CNG variants. A fully electric version is also part of the development programme.

The compact Renault Bridger SUV will introduce a new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine to Renault's portfolio. In addition to petrol options, Renault is also studying electrified powertrains as part of its longer-term strategy. For the electric version, the company is evaluating two battery pack options: 35kWh and 55kWh.

The new compact SUV uses Renault's R-GMP modular platform, which is being developed with significant localisation for the Indian market. The platform is designed to support multiple powertrain types, including internal combustion, hybrid and fully electric configurations. This flexibility allows Renault to position the product across multiple segments and price points depending on the powertrain used.

Renault plans to position the compact SUV across a wide market band depending on the powertrain configuration. The Renault Bridger SUV is targeted to span a price range of around ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh, depending on the powertrain and variant.

The upcoming Bridger compact SUV forms part of Renault's broader product offensive for the Indian market. The French carmaker has already introduced the next-generation Duster, which will be followed by a three-row SUV derivative based on the same architecture. After that, we will see the arrival of the smaller Renault Bridger (mini Duster). With the new compact SUV, Renault is targeting annual volumes of around 80,000 to 90,000 units from the sub-4 metre SUV segment.
