JLR Opens Bookings For Range Rover Electric - 600km Range On Offer

British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has revealed the production-spec Range Rover Electric and opened bookings for it in India against a token amount of Rs 10 lakh. Buyers can reserve the standard-wheelbase Range Rover Electric Autobiography, the long-wheelbase SV, SV Ultra and SV Black, and the standard-wheelbase First Edition.

The Range Rover Electric First Edition is offered in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black and Varesine Blue exterior shades. Power comes from a 118.5kWh battery pack good for up to 600km of range on the WLTP cycle, with JLR quoting a real-world figure of 535km.

Range Rover Electric: Powertrain, Range and Charging

The Range Rover Electric SUV is built on JLR's Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex), the same platform underpinning the ICE and plug-in hybrid Range Rover. Two electric motors draw from the 118.5kWh battery to produce a combined 550hp and 850Nm, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds.

A 350kW DC fast charger can take the Range Rover Electric's battery from 10-80 percent in 22 minutes, and a 10-minute top-up adds 220km of range. In single-pedal driving mode, the Range Rover Electric can climb gradients of up to 45 degrees.

JLR's Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system sends rear torque where needed to control traction, and the traction management system adjusts motor speed within 50 milliseconds. JLR claims this response is up to 100 times quicker than an equivalent ICE model. Water wading depth is rated at 900mm, matching the ICE version, and air suspension is offered as well.

Range Rover Electric: Design and Cabin

The exterior design of the Range Rover Electric stays close to the ICE model rather than adopting a distinct EV look. It carries over the same LED headlights, tail-lights, door-handle graphics, dual shark fin antennas and the spoiler that hides the rear wiper.

An aero-optimised front grille and a dedicated wheel design are the main visual differences, and there is no 'Electric' badge anywhere on the body. The absence of exhaust pipes is the other giveaway that this is the electric version.

Inside, the Range Rover Electric's cabin mirrors the ICE version just as closely, with the same steering wheel, dashboard, drive selector, centre console and dual screens. The digital driver's display measures 13.7 inches and the touchscreen spans 13.1 inches, though the EV adds an AI-based range predictor and a standard 'digital twin' feature that tracks battery health.

Depending on the variant, the Range Rover Electric is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, a branded sound system, multi-zone climate control, and heated, ventilated and massaging seats, along with Range Rover's usual list of customisation options.

Range Rover Electric: Production & Expected Price

The Range Rover Electric will be built at JLR's Solihull plant and brought to India as a fully imported model. Since it is an EV, it will not qualify for tariff concessions under the India-UK free trade agreement. We expect the Range Rover Electric to carry a starting price of around Rs 3.5 crore, ex-showroom, when it hits our streets.
