PM Narendra Modi Is Travelling With Only Two Cars Now — Here's What They Are

PM Narendra Modi has reduced his convoy to just two vehicles in a move aimed at promoting fuel conservation amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. Several other state leaders have also adopted similar measures to help the country reduce fuel consumption and conserve valuable foreign exchange reserves.

The continuing crisis in West Asia has had a significant impact across the globe, with many countries witnessing higher crude oil prices and increased concerns over energy security. India, being one of the world's largest importers of crude oil, is also facing challenges in managing its energy reserves and maintaining foreign exchange stability.

In recent developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to adopt work-from-home practices wherever possible and make greater use of public transport to reduce fuel consumption. He also advised people to avoid non-essential travel, both within the country and abroad, as part of a broader effort to conserve energy.

Leading by example, Modi has reduced his official convoy to just two vehicles. The Special Protection Group (SPG), which is responsible for the Prime Minister's security, has significantly downsized the convoy to just two cars while continuing to maintain all mandatory protection protocols.

The Prime Minister is now travelling in a Range Rover, followed by a Toyota Fortuner. Previously, more than 10 vehicles accompanied him as part of the security convoy. While the number of vehicles has been reduced, all other security arrangements remain unchanged.

1. Range Rover Sentinel

The Range Rover used by PM Modi is the Sentinel, which is only sold on order basis. The price of the vehicle could be upto 10 crore based on the safety features. It carries VR8-level ballistic certification, offering one of the highest levels of protection available in a vehicle.

It is engineered by Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division to withstand bullet attacks, grenade blasts, and explosive threats. The SUV is also equipped with advanced safety systems, including an onboard oxygen supply, fire suppression system, and several other specialized defensive features.

2. Toyota Fortuner

One of the most popular SUVs in India, the Toyota Fortuner continues to be the preferred escort vehicle in the Prime Minister's convoy. It is powered by a robust 2.8-litre diesel engine and comes with four-wheel-drive capability, paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. Known for its durability and reliability, the Fortuner used in the convoy is further upgraded with additional safety and communication equipment.

The SPG commandos will continue to ensure complete security for the Prime Minister in accordance with the protocols outlined in the official Blue Book, with no compromise on safety standards. Not only PM Modi, but Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also seen riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle to his office as part of the broader fuel conservation initiative.
