Petrol Crosses ₹110/litre In Bengaluru As Petrol, Diesel Prices Are Hiked For The 4th Time in 10 Days
Fuel prices in India have risen for the fourth time in less than a fortnight, with state-run oil marketing companies hiking petrol by up to ₹2.87 per litre and diesel by up to ₹2.81 per litre, effective Monday, May 25. With this revision, the cumulative increase since May 15 has now reached nearly ₹7.50 to ₹8 per litre.
The repeated revisions are driven by global crude oil prices staying above $100 per barrel following Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. A weakening rupee has further raised import costs for Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL, which together control over 90 percent of India's 1,03,000 fuel stations.

The first revision came on May 15, when petrol and diesel prices were raised by ₹3 per litre, marking the first fuel price hike in nearly four years. India had kept retail prices of both fuels largely unchanged through that period, with OMCs absorbing the gap between international crude costs and domestic pump rates.
A second hike of 90 paise per litre followed on May 19, as crude prices continued to climb on the back of supply uncertainty from the West Asia conflict. May 23 saw a third revision of 87 to 91 paise per litre, again implemented with immediate effect across all cities. Monday's hike is the fourth in the series and the steepest since the cycle of revisions resumed.
In Delhi, petrol now costs ₹102.12 per litre (up ₹2.61) and diesel ₹95.20 per litre (up ₹2.71). Mumbai sees petrol at ₹111.21 (up ₹2.72) and diesel at ₹97.83 (up ₹2.81). Kolkata records petrol at ₹113.51 (up ₹2.87) and diesel at ₹99.82 (up ₹2.80), while Chennai stands at ₹107.77 for petrol (up ₹2.46) and ₹99.55 for diesel (up ₹2.57). In Bengaluru, petrol now retails at ₹110.93 per litre (up ₹2.84) and diesel at ₹98.80 per litre (up ₹2.81).
