Nissan has introduced the new Tekton SUV in India, which is based on the Renault Duster. The Tekton's introductory price starts at ₹10.49 lakh (ex-showroom), and it is positioned in the mid-size SUV segment.

The Renault Duster and the Nissan Tekton are built on the same CMF-B platform and has a 5 star safety rating at the BNCAP. However, there are several key differences to consider before choosing between the two.

1. Inspired By The Himalayas

The name Tekton draws inspiration from the Himalayan mountains, unlike the Duster which is already a well established nameplate in the country. The theme is reflected through several distinctive design elements.

Along the side profile, the SUV features a piano black Himalayan crest with exclusive Tekton badging, adding a premium touch. It also rides on uniquely designed 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that further enhance its bold and muscular stance.

2. New Exterior Design

The Nissan Tekton has a more premium urban SUV appearance compared to the Duster. Nissan claims the design is inspired by its iconic Patrol SUV, featuring sharp LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs, Tekton badging, and a red accent running across the grille through the Nissan logo.

The Duster also gets its name placed on the bonnet, but its design looks more rugged and adventure-focused. Overall, the Nissan Tekton has a cleaner and more premium design, while the Duster appeals to buyers who prefer a tougher SUV look.

3. Fresher Cabin

The same design philosophy continues inside both vehicles, with the Duster's cabin looking more adventurous, while the Nissan Tekton's interior feels more premium and elegant. It features a purple-themed cabin with contrasting beige-coloured seats and upholstery.

Nissan also offers several interior themes for customers to choose from. In comparison, the Renault Duster uses a darker black-and-green interior theme, giving it a sportier and more aggressive appearance.

4. Two Powertrain Offerings

Renault shares its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines with Nissan. The smaller engine produces 100 PS of power, while the larger unit delivers a class-leading 163 PS. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 1.3-litre engine also gets a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT automatic transmission.

However, Nissan has not confirmed the 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrain, which the Renault Duster is expected to offer from this Diwali. The company has assured that it is considering introducing the hybrid variant in the future if there is sufficient demand.

5. Sunroof Lighting

The Nissan Tekton comes with unique and more premium ambient interior lighting, which the Renault Duster misses out on. During the night, it creates a moon-like illumination inside the cabin that children could especially enjoy.

The panoramic sunroof also features integrated ambient lighting with unique light patterns, a feature typically found in premium cars. This enhances the overall ambience inside the cabin, especially during night drives.
