Nissan Tekton Launch Today: 5 Biggest Expectations From India's New Mid-Size SUV

Nissan will launch the new Tekton SUV in India today, which is based on the Renault Duster. This is Nissan's first midsize compact SUV in many years, so it carries a lot of expectations from consumers and car enthusiasts.

Nissan Tekton Launch: 5 Biggest Expectation

The company is positioning this car as a premium mid-size urban SUV that shares many design similarities with the iconic Nissan Patrol. Here are the top five expectations from the upcoming Nissan Tekton.

1. Iconic 'Patrol' Design

The initial teasers and social media posts about the upcoming Nissan Tekton hint that this new compact SUV will have several design similarities with the iconic Patrol SUV. Although it is based on the Duster, which looks rugged and adventure-focused, the Tekton will be a more urban-focused SUV.

The front fascia gets an upright stance with connected LED DRLs, headlights with triple LED bars, a red badge running along the grille, a premium silver finish at the bottom, and large air dams. At the rear, it features C-shaped connected LED taillights, large Tekton badging, chunky bumpers, and a rear spoiler.

2. Powerful Turbo Petrol Engines

Nissan could offer the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines with the new Tekton. Its sibling, the Renault Duster, is also offering the same powertrain combination, and we expect the same enthusiastic driving and handling characteristics to be carried forward.

However, there have been reports that Nissan will not offer the strong hybrid version, which is set to arrive this festive season with the Renault Duster. Nissan is expected to limit the Tekton to the smaller 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines for now.

3. Updated Features and Tech

The cabin of the Nissan Tekton will be completely different from that of the Renault Duster. We expect a clean and subtle dashboard with a larger central touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.

We also expect premium features like a branded audio system, ventilated front seats, a large panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity, a three-spoke steering wheel, a rotary centre console, and new AC vents.

4. Capable of a 5-Star Level Safety

Since the Nissan Tekton is built on the same CMF-B platform as the Renault Duster, we expect safety features like six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, and much more, making it capable of scoring a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Both cars are based on the RGMP (Renault's Global Modular Platform), which has already achieved a 5-star rating in several global crash tests. Therefore, the Nissan Tekton should offer world-class safety for both passengers and pedestrians.

5. Price Expectations

The new Nissan Tekton will be positioned as a premium, mid-size, urban-focused compact SUV. We expect prices to start at ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top variant likely to be priced at around ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom). The biggest rivals of the Nissan Tekton will be the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, and the Renault Duster.
