Nissan Tekton India Debut Set For July 9 - What To Expect

Japanese carmaker Nissan has confirmed July 9th as the debut date for the Tekton, its upcoming mid-size SUV based on the Renault Duster. The reveal of the Nissan Tekton will mark the brand's return to the segment after it discontinued the Kicks in 2023, a gap of over three years.

The Nissan Tekton is a badge-engineered derivative of the Renault Duster, sharing its platform, powertrains, and much of its interior architecture. It will go up against the Duster as well as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Citroen Basalt and C3 Aircross, and the MG Astor.

Nissan Tekton: Exterior

The Tekton's front end draws inspiration from the flagship Nissan Patrol, featuring LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs, a wide grille with two chrome strips, and a dual-tone bumper. 'Tekton' branding is embossed on the bonnet's muscular surface.

The side profile closely mirrors the Duster's, with squarish wheel arches, a black door trim strip on the front doors, rear door bulges, and window-integrated rear door handles. The Tekton is expected to ride on unique 18-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Tekton gets a connected LED tail-lamp setup, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tone bumper. Unlike the Duster's two-tone tailgate, the Tekton's tailgate will carry a single-tone finish.

Nissan Tekton: Interior

Nissan has teased the dashboard in a three-tone scheme of blue, black, and copper accents, with soft-touch materials across the upper surfaces. The infotainment screen is expected to be angled toward the driver, similar to the Duster's layout.

Features are expected to mirror the Duster's equipment list - a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, and 6-way powered ventilated front seats. A 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS are also expected to be offered with the Tekton.

Nissan Tekton: Expected Powertrains

Two turbo-petrol engines carry over from the Duster to the Tekton. These include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit producing 100hp and 166Nm, and a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder unit making 160hp and 280Nm. Both will get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, with the 1.3-litre set to offer a 6-speed DCT as the automatic transmission option.

Whether the Duster's 160hp, 172Nm, 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine with e-CVT makes it to the Tekton has not been confirmed yet.

Nissan Tekton: Expected Price

Pricing is expected to fall in a range similar to the Renault Duster, which is currently priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
