New Nissan Tekton Awarded 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating Without Crash Testing: Here's How

Nissan has announced that the new Tekton SUV has secured a 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP crash tests just after its launch in India. The Tekton is Nissan's first compact SUV in many years and is part of the brand's Re:Nissan program.

The Tekton is also the first SUV to be launched under Nissan's resurgence strategy. With an incredible legacy of building SUVs for the last 75 years, the company has incorporated several of its iconic design and safety elements into the new Tekton.

Safety is one of Nissan's key priorities, and the company aimed to achieve a full 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. Although the Tekton was not formally crash tested, Bharat NCAP has considered it a 'corporate twin' of the Renault Duster, owing to the shared platform, identical vehicle structure, and safety features.

Hence, the rating awarded to the Renault Duster, which was crash tested in March 2026, is also applicable to the new Nissan Tekton. As per the official data, it scored 30.49/32 points for Adult Occupant Protection and 45/49 points for Child Occupant Protection.

The tested Renault Duster was the base variant, equipped with standard safety features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection, and seat belt reminders. It also scored 14.49/16 points in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and a full 16/16 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test.

It is built using 62% high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel with a monocoque body structure, contributing to its high levels of crash safety. The ratings apply across all variants of the new Nissan Tekton, including the Visia, Visia Plus, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna, and Tekna Plus trims. The SUV comes equipped with six airbags as standard, along with more than 40 standard safety features.

The Nissan Tekton is available with two engine options across six variants. Prices start at ₹10.49 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end variant is priced at ₹18.59 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals models such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Volkswagen Taigun, and Kia Seltos.
