Nissan Patrol India Launch Planned - Coming Via Homologation-Free CBU Route

Nissan India President Thierry Sabbagh has confirmed that the company is actively planning to bring the Patrol SUV to India. Speaking at Nissan's 2026 Vision global business outlook event, where the new Juke EV and X-Trail hybrid were also unveiled, Sabbagh told Autocar India that Nissan intends to introduce select halo products, with the Patrol being the most likely first candidate.

Nissan intends to bring the Patrol SUV to India by using our nation's homologation-free CBU import route. For Indian buyers in the market for a flagship full-size SUV, the Nissan Patrol will come into a direct contention with the Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LX, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7.

Nissan Patrol: Homologation-Free CBU Route For India

Under current regulations, automakers can import up to 2,500 passenger vehicles annually into India without requiring local homologation. Nissan intends to leverage this window to bring in flagship models that would otherwise require a significant investment in certification.

The Nissan Patrol, as the brand's top-tier body-on-frame SUV, fits the brief well. The Patrol represents the best of what Nissan offers in terms of performance, technology, and luxury, and could help shift brand perception in a market where the Japanese carmaker currently competes primarily at the volume end.

Nissan Patrol: Powertrain & Features

The seventh-generation Nissan Patrol, which entered production in 2024, is offered with two engine choices. The base unit is a 3.8-litre V6 producing 316 hp and 386 Nm of torque, while the more powerful option is a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that develops 425 hp and 700 Nm.

Both engine options for the Patrol are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Six drive modes - Rock, Sand, Mud, Standard, Eco, and Sport - help the Nissan Patrol cater to both off-road and on-road conditions.

The Patrol's cabin is built around a 28.6-inch display, a head-up display, zero gravity seats, individual cooling zones with biometric cooling, a piano-button electronic gear shifter, and a Klipsch premium audio system.

Nissan Patrol: Expected Pricepoint

Nissan intends to launch a fully-loaded variant rather than engineer the Patrol around a target price point. If the XE and SE trims of the Nissan Patrol come to India, they could arrive at a Rs 2 crore pricepoint, inclusive of taxes. If higher trims such as the Patrol Nismo or Patrol PRO-4X make it to India, prices for the Nissan Patrol could rise to between Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 3 crore or beyond.
