Next-Gen Kia Sonet SUV Coming In 2027 – Bigger, Safer & More Feature-Packed Than Ever

Kia India will launch the next-generation Kia Sonet sub-4 metre SUV in 2027. This new model will be based on a new K1 platform shared with the Kia Syros SUV. It is expected to feature a fresh design along with an updated list of features.

Kia Sonet SUV Upgrading to New Hybrid Platform

India's largest-selling SUV segment is the compact SUV category, which includes both mid-size SUVs and sub-4 metre SUVs. South Korean automaker Kia holds a strong market share in this segment with its Sonet and the Kia Seltos SUVs.

The Sonet, which was introduced in 2020, is all set to enter its next generation in 2027. After seven years, the SUV will receive a major update with a new platform shared with the Syros. This new architecture is expected to support the latest technology and improved safety features compared to the older K2 platform.

Improved Space

One of the biggest concerns among customers has been the limited second-row space in the current Sonet. This issue is likely to be addressed in the new generation, as it is expected to feature a 20mm longer wheelbase. This increase will enhance passenger comfort by offering better knee room and shoulder space.

Most of the features are expected to be borrowed from its Hyundai sibling, the Hyundai Venue. The new Sonet could come equipped with a seamless 12.3-inch connected display, replacing the existing 10.25-inch unit.

Superior Safety

It may also feature a radar-based Level 2 ADAS system, further improving safety, along with an ultra-high-strength steel body structure. The Venue and the Syros have already scored 5-star ratings in Bharat NCAP crash tests. Therefore, a similar safety performance is expected from the upcoming Sonet.

Powertrains

The powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged. These include the 1.2L MPi petrol engine producing 83 hp and 115 Nm of torque, the 1.0L GDi petrol engine delivering 88 kW and 172 Nm of torque, and the 1.5L CRDi diesel engine producing 85 kW and 250 Nm of torque. Additionally, a hybrid powertrain could be introduced later, likely around 2028 or 2029.

Price Expectations

Currently, the Sonet is priced from ₹7.31 lakh (ex-showroom). With the upcoming updates, improved features, and enhanced safety, the new-generation model is expected to start at around ₹8.0 lakh (ex-showroom). The next-generation Sonet will continue to rival models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Syros, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the Skoda Kylaq.
