The Mitsubishi Pajero Is Coming Back - 13 New Models Arriving By 2031
Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the return of the Pajero and Montero nameplates, with the company declaring "The Pajero / Montero is ready to write its next chapter" across its social media channels. Both names will be revived not as a single model but as a full brand lineup - closer in concept to Toyota's Land Cruiser family than a standalone SUV.
The Pajero name was last used in 2021. Its return is confirmed as part of a product roadmap that spans FY26 to FY31, with at least two new Pajero SUVs already in the works.
Mitsubishi Pajero - Platform and Powertrain
The first new Pajero is due this fall and will ride a ladder-frame platform shared with the Triton pickup truck. Mitsubishi plans to offer it with petrol, petrol-electric hybrid, and diesel engine options - exact lineup depending on the market.
Suspension tuning, interior trim, and other mechanicals are expected to be unique to the Pajero rather than carried over directly from the Triton. The name Montero will likely be used in Europe and North America in place of Pajero.

Mitsubishi Pajero - Design
Teasers show a connected LED DRL strip split at the centre to accommodate the Mitsubishi logo, with LED headlights at either end. The overall silhouette from the roadmap is boxy and upright - full-size SUV proportions, not a softroader.
Inside, a unique dashboard and trim treatment will separate the Pajero from the Triton. Mitsubishi hasn't shared specifics yet, but the intent is a clearly distinct product despite the shared bones.

Mitsubishi Pajero - 13 New Models Coming By FY31
The Pajero series is one piece of a 13-model offensive Mitsubishi has planned through FY31. The broader lineup covers kei wagons, a kei BEV, a pickup truck, two BEV SUVs, and a new-generation Xpander.
Off-road-focused products make up a significant chunk - two large SUVs, the new Pajero (Montero), a compact SUV, a small SUV, a pickup truck, and a minivan. Market-specific models are also confirmed within the same roadmap.
