MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Launched At Rs 25.70 Lakh As India's First Mass-Market PHEV

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk PHEV at an introductory price of Rs 25.70 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the country's first mass-market plug-in hybrid SUV. The launch arrives alongside the fully electric Hector Tomahawk EV, with bookings now open and deliveries beginning in November.

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is claimed to cover over 1100km on a full tank and a full charge combined, with 115km of that on pure electric power alone. MG also claims a combined fuel efficiency figure of over 40kpl, drawn from a 20.5kWh battery pack working alongside the petrol engine.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Price & Variants

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is offered in two variants, badged Exclusive 7S and Essence 7S, both strictly seven-seaters. The Exclusive 7S is priced at Rs 25.70 lakh, while the range-topping Essence 7S costs Rs 27.80 lakh, ex-showroom.

MG is also offering the base Exclusive 7S under its Battery-as-a-Service programme, which drops the upfront price to Rs 21.79 lakh in exchange for a running cost of Rs 3.20 per km on battery rental.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Powertrain & Dimensions

Power for the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes from a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a single electric motor and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The engine produces 102PS and 125Nm on its own, while the electric motor contributes 201PS and 237Nm. The battery supports 25kW DC fast charging.

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV measures 4,745mm long, 1850mm wide and 1770mm tall and sports a 2810mm wheelbase.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Exterior Design

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV largely mirrors the design of its electric sibling, retaining the same boxy silhouette and conventional SUV proportions. Up front, it gets a large black grille alongside rectangular LED headlamps with DRLs and an illuminated MG logo.

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and features black roof rails with thick wheel arch cladding. The rear sets it apart from the Hector Tomahawk EV, with large rectangular taillamps and a busier bumper design finished with a silver skid plate.

It is offered in six colours: Pearl White, Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Celadon Blue, Turquoise Green and Shadow Gold, with the Blue and Green shades also available with an optional white roof.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV: Interior and Features

Cabin layout stays close to the Hector Tomahawk EV as well, though the PHEV switches to a black and burgundy colour scheme and brings back physical air-conditioning controls, which the EV skips. The gear selector is mounted on the steering column, freeing up a centre console with two cupholders and a large sliding armrest.

Boot space stands at 192 litres with all three rows in place, expanding to 528 litres with the third row folded. Rear passengers get dedicated AC vents and window sunshades.

Equipment includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV also gets 6-way powered driver and 4-way powered co-driver seats, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, multiple drive modes and connected car technology.

Safety kit on the Hector Tomahawk PHEV includes 6 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic stability control and an electronic parking brake. It also gets all-wheel disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers and a 360-degree camera.

As the first mass-market plug-in hybrid SUV in India, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV has no direct rival. MG positions it as an alternative to electric SUVs like the Mahindra XEV 9S and its own sibling, the Hector Tomahawk EV, as well as ICE-powered three-row SUVs such as the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Jeep Meridian.
