MG Cyberster - India’s Best Selling Sports Car Is An Electric Dream
At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, JSW MG Motor India took the wraps off its premium MG Select lineup, which featured the MG 9 Presidential Limousine and the MG Cyberster electric open-top sports car.
Six months later, JSW MG Motor India launched the Cyberster in India at an introductory price of ₹74.99 lakh for fresh bookings and ₹72.99 lakh for those who had already pre-booked it. In the months that followed, the MG Cyberster not only captured the eye of car enthusiasts in India but also emerged as the highest-selling sports car in the country.

The response to the MG Cyberster has been strong since its launch, with 350 units already sold (as of November 30th) and waitlists now stretching to four to five months in several cities. For a sports car in this price bracket, sustained demand of this level is significant and points to a wider shift in buyer interest.
Part of that success comes from how the Cyberster is positioned. Rather than being treated as a limited-run halo car, MG has presented it as a serious performance offering with everyday usability. Buyers looking at high-end sports cars are finding the Cyberster to be a viable alternative, not just because of its electric powertrain, but because it delivers genuine performance without the ownership complexity usually associated with this segment.
The Cyberster's design plays an important role in drawing buyers in. It follows a classic roadster layout with a long bonnet, low stance and a wide rear track. The proportions are clearly sporty, yet the design avoids unnecessary exaggeration. Slim LED headlamps, smooth body surfacing and a clean front end give it a purposeful, low slung and futuristic look.
The side profile highlights the car's stance, with a long wheelbase, short overhangs and large alloy wheels filling the arches. One of the most distinctive elements of the MG Cyberster are its electrically operated scissor doors. They add visual drama and help set the Cyberster apart from other sports cars in the market.
At the rear, the full-width LED tail lamp with arrow-shaped lighting elements gives the car a clear visual signature. The rear bumper design remains clean and restrained, keeping the focus on proportion rather than aggressive detailing. The electrically operated soft-top roof completes the roadster experience and adds to the Cyberster's appeal in a market where convertibles are extremely rare.
Inside, the cabin is clearly driver-focused. The seating position is low, and the dashboard wraps slightly around the driver. A multi-screen layout dominates the interior, but physical controls have been retained for key functions such as drive modes and regenerative braking. The seats are well bolstered, offering good comfort while also supporting you if you decide a run through the ghats is what the day calls for.
Backing up the design is serious performance. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup produces 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque, delivering 0-100km/h acceleration figures of just 3.2 seconds, more than enough to get your heart rate up.
At the same time, the Cyberster avoids being a one-dimensional performance car. The large battery pack offers a MIDC range of 580 km on a single charge, making it usable beyond just the short weekend drives. This combination of speed and usable range has broadened the appeal of the Cyberster, helping it reach buyers who may have previously stayed away from a sports car.
The MG Cyberster's sales performance also reflects MG's retail strategy. By offering the car through its MG Select premium outlets, the brand has ensured a more focused buying experience that aligns with expectations at this level. Coupled with MG's growing service footprint, this has helped reduce the hesitation often associated with owning a high-performance vehicle in India.
More importantly, the Cyberster's success points to a shift in the Indian market. Buyers are increasingly open to electric performance, provided the product delivers on design, speed and everyday usability. The Cyberster has managed to tick all three boxes, which explains why it has moved beyond being a curiosity to becoming the country's best-selling sports car.
