Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Facelift Revealed With More Power And New Hyperscreen

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 with revised styling, a more powerful V8 engine, and new comfort and technology features. The facelifted Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 has already gone on sale in China, with deliveries to the US and Europe expected to begin later this year.

Styling cues on the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 are shared with the recently revealed Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift, though the Maybach version gets its own set of exterior and cabin updates. Under the bonnet, changes centre on a reworked twin-turbo V8 paired with a mild-hybrid setup.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 is powered by the the M177 Evo powerplant. This setup features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The GLS 680's engine now produces 600bhp and 850Nm, with the integrated starter generator adding a further 23bhp on demand.

Mercedes-Benz has also revised the steering calibration for sharper feedback and updated the standard AIRMATIC air suspension with cloud-based predictive dampers that draw on road data from other Mercedes-Benz cars to adjust ride and handling in real time. Buyers can also opt for E-Active Body Control , which leans the SUV into corners to improve occupant comfort.

Up front, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 sports reshaped LED headlamps with rose-gold detailing and dual three-pointed star daytime running light signatures, along with a chrome-laden grille that now features illumination for both its surround and the Maybach wordmark, a first for the model. The bonnet-mounted Mercedes-Benz emblem can also be illuminated as an option.

At the rear of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680, wraparound rectangular LED tail-lamps each house a trio of three-pointed-star DRLs and are bridged by a gloss-black panel carrying the Mercedes-Benz badge. New 22-inch alloy wheels are now standard, with 23-inch monoblock units offered as an option.

Powered, illuminated side steps and Maybach logo projectors on the doors are also fitted as standard. Fresh paint options include Dark Petrol and Verde Silver Metallic, alongside a new dual-tone finish.

Inside, the cabin of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 adopts Mercedes-Benz's Hyperscreen layout, comprising 12.3-inch infotainment, passenger and instrument displays. The setup runs the latest MB.OS software with over-the-air update capability, paired with a new AI assistant that combines ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

The dashboard layout has also changed to suit the new screens, with four central AC vents replaced by two wider units and turbine-style vents added at each end. Physical toggles and rotary knobs for the four-zone climate control remain on the centre console.

Nappa leather upholstery choices, additional trim finishes and improved sound insulation feature as well, alongside upgraded cabin air filtration. Front and rear massage functions have also been enhanced, with rear-seat massage now extending to the footrests.

The Burmester 3D surround sound system has grown from 13 to 15 speakers and now uses a 710W amplifier for improved audio output. Level 2 driver assistance features have also been expanded for select markets.
