Mercedes-Benz Recalls 99 Electric G-Class SUVs Over Potential Safety Concern

One of India's leading luxury car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz, has announced a recall for its fully electric G-Class SUV, the G 580 with EQ Technology. The recall has been initiated due to a potential issue involving the vehicle's wheel bolts, which could affect driving safety.

Recall Campaign For Mercedes-Benz G 580 SUV

Mercedes-Benz has identified a possible defect in the wheel bolts fitted to certain units of the electric G-Class. According to the company, a total of 99 vehicles manufactured between July 12, 2024 and August 18, 2025 could be affected by this issue.

As a pre safety measure, the automaker has started contacting owners of the impacted vehicles and has advised them to visit authorised dealerships for inspection and replacement of the wheel bolts. The company will reportedly replace the affected components with updated parts to ensure the vehicles continue to meet safety standards.

This marks the second recall campaign announced by Mercedes-Benz in India this year. Earlier, the luxury carmaker had recalled select C63 S AMG and CLE models due to an issue related to the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The latest recall highlights the company's efforts to proactively address potential safety concerns before they become major issues for customers.

According to the company, the wheel bolt defect could pose a safety risk over time. In extreme cases, the wheel bolts may gradually loosen, potentially affecting vehicle stability and handling. If not rectified, the issue could increase the risk of accidents or collisions, particularly during high-speed driving or under demanding road conditions.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships are expected to contact affected customers directly and schedule service appointments. Since the issue falls under a manufacturer-initiated recall, the inspection and replacement work is expected to be carried out free of charge.

Mercedes-Benz Electric G-Class

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology was launched as one of the most luxurious electric SUVs available in India. While it retains the iconic design and road presence of the traditional G-Wagon, it is powered by a fully electric drivetrain.

The luxury electric SUV is equipped with a large 116 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed driving range of up to 473 km on a single charge. Powering the vehicle are four electric motors producing a combined output of 587 hp and 1,164 Nm of torque.

Performance remains one of the key highlights of the G 580, with the SUV capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. It also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 32 minutes with fast charging.

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is currently priced at Rs 3.10 crore (ex-showroom), making it one of the most expensive and technologically advanced electric SUVs on sale in the Indian market.
