Mercedes-Benz has issued a customer advisory regarding E20 fuel after popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi's claims of reduced fuel efficiency in his Mercedes-Benz GLC went viral. Indian consumers have several doubts and concerns regarding E20 fuel.

Many users in India have already raised complaints about reduced fuel efficiency due to the use of ethanol-blended petrol. Recently, YouTuber Sourav Joshi claimed that his Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC was returning lower fuel efficiency after using E20 petrol. According to him, his Mercedes was averaging 17 km/l, and after using E20 petrol for just 48 hours, the mileage dropped to 5 km/l.

The video went viral on his social media page, and several other consumers expressed their distrust of ethanol-blended petrol. Now, Mercedes-Benz has issued a customer advisory regarding the compatibility of E20 fuel with its petrol vehicles.

The statement read, "At Mercedes-Benz, customer safety, vehicle reliability, and performance are of paramount importance to us. All Mercedes-Benz petrol BS6 vehicles are materially compatible with E20 fuel and certified accordingly by the relevant authorities. We are happy to support customers with any technical queries. Mercedes-Benz remains committed to sustainable mobility."

The statement has received widespread attention after many consumers questioned the E20 compatibility of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Not only Mercedes-Benz, but several other manufacturers have also stated that their vehicles are compatible with E20 fuel. However, users continue to have concerns about fuel efficiency and engine reliability when using ethanol-blended petrol.

The government has also assured consumers that ethanol does not damage the engine, apart from a slight decrease in fuel efficiency due to its lower energy content. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has also said that ethanol blending is helping Indian farmers while reducing the country's foreign exchange expenditure.

They also plans to further accelerate the ethanol blending program with higher blends such as E22, E25, and E30 fuels. Blending ethanol with petrol reduces India's dependence on crude oil imports and supports the country's transition towards greener mobility by lowering carbon emissions.
