Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: Battery, Range, Performance & Charging

The Mercedes-Benz CLA EV is offered in two basic variant options. The base CLA 200 Standard Range sports a 58kWh battery with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 224hp and 335Nm. The Mercedes CLA 200 Standard Range offers a WLTP range of 542km on a single charge and can sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds.

The CLA 250+ Long Range steps up to an 85kWh NMC battery and 272hp, with the torque output remaining the same at 335Nm. The CLA 250 offers a WLTP of 792km, and the 0-100km/h sprint drops to 6.7 seconds. Both variants use a two-speed gearbox rather than the single-speed reduction drive found on most EVs.

The CLA EV uses an 800V electrical architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 320kW. That translates to a 300km top-up in 10 minutes for the CLA 250+ Long Range.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: Design & Features

The CLA EV has a drag coefficient of 0.21, allowing it to cut through the air with ease but it is also larger than its predecessor: 25mm wider, 25mm taller, and 30mm longer The Mercedes three-pointed star motif runs through both the headlights and taillights, and the flush front grille features 142 individual backlit three-pointed stars.

Frameless doors and a coupe-like tapering roofline are carried over from the original CLA, and both versions of the CLA EV ride on aero-optimised 18-inch AMG alloys. The AMG-Line styling package comes standard with the CLA 250+ Long Range, which gets sportier bumper treatments.

Inside the CLA EV's cabin, the dashboard houses a 14-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display along with a cluster of illuminated three-pointed stars on the co-driver's side. The 250+ Long Range adds a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel, metal pedals, and AMG seat upholstery.

Front seats on the CLA EV are powered and heated, with massage functions, though ventilation isn't available. The CLA EV features dual-zone auto climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass roof, Burmester 3D audio, and a wireless charging pad. Boot space is 405 litres, with an additional 101-litre frunk up front.

Safety kit on the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV includes 6 airbags, auto park assist, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2+ ADAS with semi-autonomous driving capability.
