McLaren McL 6GT Manual Supercar Concept Revealed At Monterey Car Week - Production Set For 2028

British supercar manufacturer McLaren has unveiled the McL 6GT concept at Monterey Car Week, previewing a production car confirmed to arrive in 2028. The McLaren McL 6GT marks the brand's first car to offer a manual gearbox car since the F1, which arrived in 1992.

The McLaren McL 6GT takes its name and inspiration from Bruce McLaren's unfinished M6GT road car project of the 1960s, and it previews a new, low-volume line-up that will sit alongside McLaren's existing range rather than replace it.

Power for the McLaren McL 6GT comes from a mid-mounted V8 petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, sending drive to the rear wheels alone. McLaren has not disclosed the engine's displacement, power output or performance figures for the concept. McLaren says the driving experience has been built around hydraulic steering, traditional cabin controls and the manual shift itself, rather than around outright numbers.

McLaren McL 6GT: Exterior & Interior Design

Design cues for the McLaren McL 6GT are drawn directly from the M6GT prototype, with a low nose, wide stance and a Kammback-style rear replacing McLaren's familiar shape. The body sits on a carbon-fibre monocoque with carbon-fibre panels, matching the construction used across the brand's core range. The styling of the McLaren McL 6GT marks a clear departure from the design language McLaren has used across its lineup since the MP4-12C arrived in 2009

A new "Racing Loop" tail-light signature marks out the rear end, while Bruce McLaren's signature is etched onto the engine cover. The historic Speedy Kiwi emblem, a nod to the founder's New Zealand roots, is engraved into the fuel filler cap.

Inside, the cabin of the McLaren McL 6GT mixes a digital instrument display and machined aluminium controls with exposed carbon-fibre trim and upholstery patterned after the M6GT's quilted seats. Physical switchgear has been retained throughout instead of touch-based controls.

The manual gear lever carries its own three-dimensional Speedy Kiwi emblem, with an exposed shift mechanism and a boxy knob shape that echo the original prototype's design. McLaren says the cabin of the McL 6GT has been built to prioritise driver engagement while keeping the M6GT's simplicity.

McLaren has confirmed the production version of the McLaren McL 6GT will enter production in 2028 and will arrive largely unchanged from this concept. The new McLaren McL 6GT will not replace any model in the brand's core range, instead heading a new, more exclusive line-up sold alongside the existing cars. Pricing and production numbers have not been announced.
