Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex: Top 5 Things You Need To Know About India’s First Flex-Fuel Car
Maruti Suzuki has launched India's first-ever flex-fuel car, called the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex. This new version of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR is designed to run on higher ethanol-blended fuels while balancing both performance and efficiency.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex: Top 5 Things You To Know
India is moving towards alternative fuels, and ethanol is emerging as a strong replacement for petrol. Since it is locally produced, it can reduce crude oil imports and save valuable foreign exchange. With this move, Maruti Suzuki aims to support India's clean fuel mission.
1. Available Only With Top Trim

The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex is currently available only for commercial use and comes in the top-spec ZXi+ trim. This move has been made because E85 fuel availability is still limited in India and will be rolled out in phases across major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Hyderabad.
2. Ethanol Compatible Engine
Maruti Suzuki has retained the same 1.2-litre K-Series 4-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 91 hp and 114 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. To make it compatible with higher ethanol blends, critical components like the fuel injectors, fuel pump, and fuel lines have been upgraded.
3. Retuned For Efficiency

The ECU has also been recalibrated along with a new ethanol sensor to optimise fuel injection and timing based on the ethanol content. This helps maintain performance while delivering fuel efficiency similar to the standard Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
4. Flexible Usability
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex can run on fuel blends up to E85, unlike the standard model, which supports only E20 fuel. The ethanol sensor constantly monitors the fuel composition and automatically adjusts engine timing and injection accordingly.
5. Packed With Features

Apart from Bioflex-specific styling, the car remains largely similar to the standard model. It retains the tall-boy design, spacious cabin, dual-tone interior, fabric seats, a 7-inch infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six airbags, ESC, rear parking sensors, rear AC vents, and a four-speaker audio system.
Pricing
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR Bioflex is priced at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The standard ZXi+ trim is priced at Rs 6.38 lakh (ex-showroom), making the Bioflex variant around Rs 86,000 more expensive. However, with growing ethanol infrastructure, this price difference could become more valuable as higher ethanol-blended fuels are expected to be cheaper than regular E20 petrol in the future.
