Maruti Suzuki Working On Affordable EV Under Rs 10 Lakh To Rival Tiago EV
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a Maruti Suzuki affordable EV priced under Rs 10 lakh, positioned to take on the Tata Tiago EV. The model would become the company's second electric car after the recently launched eVitara.
According to a report by Fortune India, the new Maruti Suzuki small EV could be sold through Maruti's Arena network rather than the premium Nexa outlets that currently retail the eVitara.

Maruti Suzuki Small EV: Development And Pricing Details
The upcoming model is reportedly being built as a dedicated electric vehicle rather than an EV derivative of an existing ICE car. This is expected to let Maruti Suzuki optimise battery placement, cabin space and other components specifically around an electric powertrain.
High localisation levels and a relatively compact battery pack are expected to keep costs in check. The targeted price is reportedly in the Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh range, ex-showroom, as per the report.
Rather than chasing the long range offered by pricier electric SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki affordable EV is expected to focus on everyday urban and suburban use. A claimed range of around 250-315 km is under consideration, putting it in similar territory to the Tata Tiago EV.
Maruti Suzuki Small EV: Retail Strategy And Suzuki e Sky Clues
The Arena network would give Maruti access to its core mass-market customer base, one of India's largest passenger vehicle retail setups. Buyers currently considering the WagonR, Swift and other affordable hatchbacks could form part of the target audience.
Like the eVitara, the new EV is expected to be manufactured exclusively in India, with the country serving as an export hub. A Toyota-badged derivative is also being speculated, though this remains unconfirmed.
Suzuki's recently revealed e Sky offers some indication of the company's approach to compact, affordable electric cars, though no official link between the two products has been confirmed. The e Sky measures 3,395 mm in length with a 2,460 mm wheelbase and a kerb weight of around 1,030 kg, and uses a 26 kWh battery for a claimed range of up to 310 km.
