Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex Launched At Rs 7.24 Lakh: Supports E85 Ethanol Blend

India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has launched the Wagon R Bioflex at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on the top-spec Wagon R ZXi+ manual variant, the new flex-fuel Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex is capable of running on blended fuel containing up to 85 percent ethanol (E85).

The Wagon R Bioflex was showcased in production-spec form earlier this month and is currently being offered exclusively for commercial buyers. The new variant carries a premium of Rs 86,000 over the standard Wagon R ZXi+ MT.

The Wagon R Bioflex becomes the most expensive manual variant in the Wagon R lineup. It is positioned as a flex-fuel alternative aimed at supporting India's growing ethanol-blending programme.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex Launched - Flex-Fuel Powertrain

Powering the Wagon R Bioflex is Maruti Suzuki's 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder K12N petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine has been modified to support higher ethanol concentrations without affecting drivability.

Key upgrades include revised fuel injectors, an upgraded fuel pump, modified fuel lines, a recalibrated ECU and the addition of an ethanol sensor. These changes allow the engine to operate on fuel blends containing up to 85 percent ethanol. Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal detailed performance figures for the Bioflex version. For reference, the standard Wagon R ZXi+ develops 91hp and 114Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki has not yet announced the claimed fuel-efficiency figures for the Wagon R Bioflex. The regular Wagon R ZXi+ with the 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers a claimed mileage of 23.56kpl when paired with the manual transmission. Further technical specifications, including performance and efficiency data, are expected to be announced at a later date.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex Launched - Available Only For Commercial Buyers

At launch, Maruti Suzuki is offering the Wagon R Bioflex exclusively for commercial applications. The model sits above the Wagon R Tour H3 range, which is available with petrol and CNG powertrains.

While the Wagon R Bioflex commands a higher asking price, it also benefits from the larger 1.2-litre engine. The Wagon R Tour H3 uses a smaller 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 69hp.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex Launched - Minimal Cosmetic Changes

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex remains visually similar to the standard hatchback. Exterior changes are limited to 'Flex Fuel' decals on the side profile and a dedicated 'Bioflex' badge on the tailgate.

Inside, the Wagon R Bioflex retains the familiar black-and-beige dual-tone cabin theme, fabric seat upholstery and the three-spoke steering wheel seen on the regular Wagon R.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Bioflex Launched - Features & Safety

The Wagon R Bioflex comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The hatchback also gets steering-mounted controls and a four-speaker audio system. Additional features expected from the ZXi+ trim include manual air conditioning with rear AC vents, front fog lamps and rear parking sensors.

Safety equipment includes six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), making it one of the better-equipped variants in the Wagon R range.
