Maruti Suzuki Swift, Dzire, Baleno CNG AMT Launched

Maruti Suzuki has launched CNG AMT versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno under its new Auto Green Mission, with prices starting from Rs 7.92 lakh, Rs 8.53 lakh and Rs 8.32 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.

All three cars use the same 1.2-litre engine and five-speed automated gearbox, and put Maruti Suzuki in direct competition with Tata's CNG-AMT offerings across the hatchback and sedan segments.

The Swift CNG AMT commands a Rs 35,000 premium over its manual counterpart, whose efficiency stands at 32.85km/kg. The Dzire's 36.47km/kg rating makes it India's most fuel-efficient sedan, as certified by JATO Dynamics, ahead of its own manual variant's 33.73km/kg. The Baleno's AMT returns 0.86kpl more than its CNG-manual version.

Engine, CNG Tank & Changes To Boot space

All three cars share the Z12E 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology, paired with a five-speed automated gearbox that Maruti calls Auto Gear Shift (AGS). In CNG mode, the engine makes 69.75PS at 5,700rpm and 101.8Nm at 2,900rpm, dropping to 82.93PS and 112.4Nm on petrol.

Each car carries a 37-litre petrol tank alongside a 55-litre CNG tank(equivalent water capacity), mounted in the boot rather than under the body. The Dzire's standard boot capacity is 382 litres. The Baleno's tank sits alongside its spare wheel, leaving little usable luggage room, and unlike the Victoris and the Wagon R facelift test mule, none of the three gets an underbody CNG tank. The Baleno's suspension has retuned from its petrol version, carried over from its existing CNG-MT variant.

In the sedan segment, the Dzire's direct CNG-AMT rival is the Tata Tigor CNG AMT, which is expected to receive a major upgrade next month. The Baleno competes with the Tata Altroz CNG AMT, which uses twin CNG cylinders in the boot instead of a single tank, leaving 210 litres of luggage space.
