Maruti Suzuki Sales Rise To 2,36,963 Units In January - Exports And SUVs Drive Growth

Maruti Suzuki has reported that in January 2026, it sold a total of 2,36,963 units, marking the company's highest-ever monthly sales of all time as the nation's leading carmaker started off the new calendar year with a bang.

Maruti Suzuki's total sales increased from 2,12,251 units in January 2025 to 2,36,963 units this year, representing a gain of 24,712 units (+11.64%) year-on-year. This big uptick in sales was supported by stronger utility vehicle demand and a sharp rise in export shipments during the first month of 2026.

Maruti Suzuki's domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,74,529 units, marginally higher than 1,73,599 units recorded in the same month in 2025, reflecting a net increase of 930 units (+0.54%), as gains in utility vehicles and vans offset declines in compact and mid-size segments.

The mini segment comprising Alto and S-Presso registered 14,268 units compared with 14,247 units a year earlier, posting a small increase of 21 units (+0.15%). Compact models, including the likes of the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR, recorded 72,738 units against 82,241 units last January, a decline of 9,503 units (-11.56%). The Compact segment was the largest negative contributor within Maruti's passenger vehicle portfolio during January 2026.

Combined mini and compact segment volumes therefore reduced to 87,006 units from the 96,488 units of January 2025, reflecting a fall of 9,482 units (-9.83%) year-on-year, while the mid-size Ciaz sedan reported no dispatches compared with 768 units in January 2025 (-100%).

Maruti Suzuki's Utility vehicle setup which comprises of SUVs like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and MPVs like the Ertiga, XL6 and Invicto models accounted for 75,609 units last month. Compared to the 65,093 utility vehicles Maruti sold over the same period last year, there was an increase of 10,516 units (+16.16%), which helped offset weaker compact car demand.

Van sales (Eeco) rose to 11,914 units from 11,250 units, adding 664 units (+5.90%), while light commercial vehicle volumes (Super Carry) declined to 3,771 units compared with the 4,089 units sold the previous January, reflecting a drop of 318 units (-7.78%).

Total domestic sales, including passenger and light commercial vehicles, reached 1,78,300 units versus 1,77,688 units last year, a gain of 612 units (+0.34%), while sales to other OEMs rose by 180 units to 7,643 units from the 7,463 units sold the previous January and an increase of 2.41%.
Total domestic dispatches, including PV, LCV and sales to other OEMs combined, stood at 1,85,943 units compared with 1,85,151 units, up by 792 units (+0.43%), while exports climbed sharply to 51,020 units from 27,100 units, reflecting an increase of 23,920 units (+88.27%).
As a result, combined domestic and export volumes reached 2,36,963 units for January, higher than 2,12,251 units in the year-ago period, while cumulative sales for April to January also rose to 19,83,467 units from 18,41,882 units (+7.69%).
