Maruti Suzuki Dispatches 1 Lakh Vehicles In 9 Months From Manesar Rail Siding

Maruti Suzuki has dispatched 1 lakh vehicles through its in-plant railway siding at Manesar within nine months of operations. The facility, which became operational in June 2025, has emerged as a key part of the company's shift towards rail-based vehicle logistics.

The milestone highlights the growing role of rail transport in Maruti Suzuki's distribution network, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing dependence on road transport.

Maruti Suzuki's Manesar railway siding is spread across 46 acres and is currently the largest in-plant automobile railway facility in India. Since its launch, the Mansesar railway siding t has handled dispatches using more than 500 rakes, connecting vehicles to multiple parts of the country.

The Manesar rail siding facility operates on a hub-and-spoke distribution model, serving around 380 cities through 17 hubs. Vehicles manufactured at the company's Gurugram and Manesar plants are transported through this network.

Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "In June 2025, Hon'ble Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding at our Manesar plant. I am happy to share that within a short span of nine months, we have dispatched 100,000 units, through this siding. This initiative reinforces our commitment to reduce carbon footprint in vehicle dispatches while easing overall road congestion. At full capacity, the Manesar siding has the capability to dispatch 450,000 units annually."

He added, "In CY 2025, the Company set a record by dispatching over 5.85 lakh vehicles through railways. Interestingly, in the past decade, our share of rail mode in outbound logistics has grown exponentially, from 5% in 2016 to 26% in 2025. Going forward, we aim to scale up rail-based vehicle dispatches from the current 26% to 35% by FY 2030-31#, in line with our commitment to build efficient and sustainable logistics and contribute to India's net-zero ambition."

Models dispatched through the Manesar siding include high-volume products such as the Alto, WagonR, Brezza, Dzire, Ertiga, Celerio, XL6, Eeco and Super Carry. These account for a significant share of the company's domestic volumes. The scale of operations reflects the increasing use of railways for outbound logistics, particularly for high-volume models produced at the Manesar facility.

The shift to rail transport has also contributed to lower emissions for the nation's largest carmaker. Maruti Suzuki estimates that around 16,800 tonnes of CO₂ emissions have been avoided since the siding became operational. Rail-based dispatch is also expected to reduce road congestion and improve overall supply chain efficiency, especially for long-distance vehicle movement.

The Manesar siding is part of Maruti Suzuki's broader strategy to increase the share of vehicles transported via rail. The company has been steadily expanding its rail logistics network in recent years, supported by infrastructure investments and dedicated terminals. With the Manesar facility now operational at scale, rail dispatch is expected to play a larger role in the company's overall distribution mix.
