Spy Pics: Maruti Brezza Facelift Spied During Emsission Testing — New Engine Incoming?

A test mule of the upcoming Maruti Brezza facelift has been caught undergoing emission testing by Rushlane near Delhi's Western Peripheral Expressway. The development points strongly to a new powertrain being calibrated for the refreshed sub-4m SUV, ahead of what is widely expected to be a mid-cycle update.

Maruti Suzuki currently offers the Brezza exclusively with a 1.5-litre K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic. That displacement puts the Brezza outside India's B-segment tax bracket, which requires petrol engines at or below 1,200cc to qualify for lower levies.

The emission testing setup visible on the facelift test mule signals that a new powertrain is being optimised for Brezza's structure and weight. Two candidates currently offered by the frim fit the bill: Maruti's 1.2-litre NA petrol and its 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol, currently offered in the Fronx.

Previous spy shots of the Brezza facelift revealed a 6-speed manual gearbox, which the 1.2-litre NA unit is not paired with in Maruti's current portfolio. That effectively rules out the NA option and points the finger squarely at the 1.0-litre Boosterjet. Rivals including the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Skoda Kylaq, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite all offer turbo-petrol engines in this space.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift - CNG and Design Updates

A separate test mule spotted earlier this month featured an underbody CNG tank, mirroring the layout first seen on the Maruti Victoris. The format positions the CNG cylinder beneath the floor rather than in the boot, preserving luggage space.

On the outside, the facelift brings a cleaner upper grille, revised front and rear bumpers with repositioned fog light clusters, and what appears to be an ADAS radar housing at the front. Alloy wheels appear to be 16-inch units. The rear design remains largely unchanged, and drum brakes are carried over.
