The XUV 7XO borrows several design elements from its electric sibling, including the overall silhouette, LED DRLs, connected tail section, flush door handles, and 19-inch alloy wheels. It leans more towards an MPV-like premium design and appears larger than its competitor.
The Tata Safari, on the other hand, looks more commanding and rugged. It features a broader front fascia with a parametric grille, connected LED lighting, bi-LED projector headlamps, large wheel arches with 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a wider body, and a high-lifted rear section. Overall, the Safari offers a more traditional SUV stance, while the XUV 7XO feels more like a premium family-oriented MPV crossover vehicle.
Powertrains and Transmission
Petrol Engines
Both SUVs offer petrol and diesel powertrain options, with the Tata Safari recently updated with a new turbo-petrol engine borrowed from the Sierra. On the petrol side, the Mahindra XUV 7XO's 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine produces 203 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Tata Safari's 2.0-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine produces 170 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a JLR-derived 6-speed automatic transmission. While the XUV 7XO delivers superior performance, the Safari offers more balanced performance with better fuel efficiency.
Diesel Engines
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is powered by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 186 PS of power and 420-450 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It also comes with drive modes and an AWD feature in the automatic variant, whereas the Safari is still a FWD vehicle.
The Tata Safari's 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. Once again, Mahindra leads in power output, while Tata focuses on a balance between performance and mileage. A key advantage of the Safari is the availability of paddle shifters, which the XUV 7XO misses.
Dimensions
The Mahindra XUV 7XO benefits from a longer wheelbase and overall length, resulting in more knee room and better third-row space. This makes it more suitable for passengers seated in the last row.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is priced from ₹13.66 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top variant costing ₹24.92 lakh. The Tata Safari, following the introduction of its new petrol engine, starts at ₹12.89 lakh, with the top variant priced at ₹25.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
Choosing between these two SUVs is challenging, as both offer class-leading design and features. If you prioritise a rugged SUV stance, balanced power delivery, fuel efficiency, and comfort, the Tata Safari is the better choice. However, if you wish for cutting-edge technology, advanced suspension, and a futuristic design, the Mahindra XUV 7XO stands out as a suitable option.
