Mahindra XEV 9e, XEV 9S Now Available With Battery-as-a-Service - Prices Start At Rs 12.65 Lakh

Mahindra has extended its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme to its flagship Electric Origin SUVs, the XEV 9S and the XEV 9e. Under BaaS, the XEV 9S is now priced from Rs 12.65 lakh and the XEV 9e from Rs 13.90 lakh, both ex-showroom.

Battery financing under the scheme carries an effective usage cost of Rs 3.75 per km. With this expansion, every model in Mahindra's born-electric SUV range, including the BE 6 Sporteq, is now available with the BaaS ownership structure.

Mahinda XEV 9e and XEV 9S BaaS Pricing

The BaaS structure lowers the entry price of both the Mahinda XEV 9e and XEV 9S by Rs 8 lakh. Standard ex-showroom prices, excluding the charger, start at Rs 20.65 lakh for the XEV 9S and Rs 21.90 lakh for the XEV 9e. The BE 6 Sporteq, where BaaS was first introduced, is available under the scheme from Rs 11.45 lakh.

Mahindra has also extended BaaS across all variants of the recently launched BE 6 Sporteq as well. The programme was previously limited to the Pack One and Pack Two trims, which use the smaller 59kWh battery. The company hasn't disclosed a variant-wise breakup of BaaS prices for any of the three SUVs.

According to Mahindra, the Rs 3.75 per km effective usage cost is calculated from a starting battery EMI of Rs 6,975, based on an average daily run of 60km. Actual EMI will vary depending on battery size, down payment and loan tenure, and the quoted prices exclude charger cost, road tax, insurance, TCS and other statutory levies.

How BaaS Works

BaaS separates the cost of an EV's battery pack from its ex-showroom price, cutting the upfront cost for the buyer. The battery is then financed per kilometre of usage over a tenure and interest rate set by the financier. Charging costs are not included in this usage fee, and the programme is currently meant for personal use only.

JSW-MG Motor India was the first manufacturer to introduce BaaS in India, launching it with the Windsor. Tata Motors, Maruti, Toyota, Hyundai and Citroen have since adopted similar pricing structures to push EV adoption. Mahindra's expansion also follows the recent launch of the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, a new rival in the large electric SUV segment where the XEV 9S and XEV 9e compete.
